Planning a trip to Żeleźnikowa Wielka can be guided by sacred art and different route options. The Parish Church of St. Michael the Archangel, a nature trail, a green-marked route and a planned cycling route offer a range of points of interest. When choosing a hotel, it is helpful to first consider which of these themes you want to shape your stay.

The church and works of art from different periods

Żeleźnikowa Wielka is home to the brick-built, Neo-Gothic Roman Catholic Parish Church of St. Michael the Archangel. It was built between 1912 and 1921 and is protected in the Polish register of historic monuments. A painting dating from around 1460 depicts Mary with the infant Jesus between St. Michael the Archangel and St. John the Evangelist. The main portal bears a mosaic depicting the Archangel Michael, dating from 1958.

The interior also features figurative and ornamental polychrome decoration, painted by Paweł Mitka in 1957. The dates place the artworks in a distinct sequence: the painting was created long before the church was built; the interior polychrome decoration and mosaic date from the mid-20th century. The construction and furnishings can thus be viewed as belonging to different periods, rather than assigning the works to a single date of creation.

Nature trail, route and planned cycling route

The “ŻELEŹNIKOWA” nature trail starts at the school in Żeleźnikowa Wielka, follows the road to the church and turns right at the cemetery. Its description lists a series of landmarks: the school, the road, the church and the cemetery. This helps distinguish the trail from other route information in the area.

A green-marked route runs from Nowy Sącz through Żeleźnikowa towards Makowica. It specifies the direction of departure and destination, whereas the nature trail description focuses on the starting point and the route along the road. These are therefore different routes and should not be confused when planning.

A cycling route from Żeleźnikowa Wielka to Myślec is planned. It is a separate planning item alongside the nature trail and the green-marked route. If you are planning your trip around cycling, it is worth noting that this route is planned and not yet an existing connection.
