Bukowno offers nature and geology alongside traces of its mining history and regional culture. The main attractions are easy to distinguish when planning your trip: Diabla Góra is known for its views, forest and rock formations; an educational trail and several cycling routes explore the surrounding area in different ways; and the Regionalna Sala Muzealna focuses on minerals as well as local and cultural history.

Diabla Góra and the Sztoła

Diabla Góra lies 383 m above sea level and offers a viewpoint overlooking the surrounding area. Triassic limestone formations can be found on its slopes, and the hill is covered by a beech forest more than 250 years old. The area brings together views of the surroundings, geological features and old-growth trees. The Sztoła is also part of Bukowno’s landscape history, but as a story of change: the Olkusz-Pomorzany mine had previously supplied water to the watercourse. After the mine closed and the drainage pumps were switched off, the water level fell, and the section of the watercourse in Bukowno disappeared.

Educational Trail and Cave

The educational trail at Diabla Góra is marked in blue and green, is about 6.8 km long, and showcases the area’s geological and natural features. Its approximate length gives you a first indication for planning. Check current trail conditions before setting out. Triashöhle is also located at Diabla Góra. Because it is difficult and dangerous, it is accessible only to experienced cavers. Include the cave in your plans only if you are among them.

Cycling Routes with Different Conditions

A 38 km cycling route leads from Rabsztyn via Troks, Zimnodół, Żurada and Bukowno to Olkusz. About 8.5 km of it runs through the Gmina Bukowno. These figures refer to different sections: 38 km is the length of the entire route, while around 8.5 km is the section through the municipality. In the Olkusz area, the route connects with other cycling routes, including the Jurajski Rowerowy Szlak Orlich Gniazd and the main route through the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland.

The cycling route south towards Diabla Góra is passable by bicycle and adds 3.9 km along forest roads. To the north, towards the Leśny Dwór reservoir, sandy, unpaved tracks make even pushing a bicycle very difficult. The two directions therefore differ considerably in trail conditions. As surfaces and access conditions can change, check them before setting out.

Regional History and Collection

The Regionalna Sala Muzealna displays minerals from Bukowno and the surrounding area, everyday objects, and items from Zakłady Górniczo-Hutnicze w Bukownie. The collection also includes the history of Polish money and postage stamps, reprints of newspapers from the Second World War, and documents and photographs of the town. Nature is represented alongside industrial, everyday and local history. The Regionalna Sala Muzealna also hosts meetings with regionalists, the Klubu Literackiego „Bukowy Liść” and the Klubu Regionalistów; regional studies and museum classes are held there as well.
