Ładna: Church, cycle paths and hotels
Accommodation in Ładna
If you are looking for a hotel in Ładna, you can get your bearings by visiting the Church of the Transfiguration, the 202-metre-long footpath and several cycle routes. Ładna is one of five sołectwa within the municipality of Skrzyszów; the municipality’s administrative centre is also called Skrzyszów. The municipality lies in the eastern part of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, near the border with the Subcarpathian Voivodeship.
Church of the Transfiguration: architecture and imagery
The Church of the Transfiguration in Ładna was built to a design by Zygmunt Honkisz. It has three naves; a fresco on the front façade depicts the Transfiguration on Mount Tabor. The same scene appears in the main altar painting. The church windows depict John Paul II and Blessed Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński. The imagery can thus be distinguished: the Transfiguration features on the façade and altar, while the stained-glass windows portray two figures from the Church.
The dates mark different events too: the chapel opened in 1991, and the church was consecrated on 6 August 2002. The chapel also contains a movable nativity scene, funded by Zygmunt Augustyn, a resident of Ładna. Together, the design, imagery and chapel’s history offer different ways to understand the church’s architecture and furnishings.
On foot and by bicycle
A 202-metre-long footpath was created as part of a municipal leisure project. Check the path’s current condition before visiting. For cycling, there is a marked 6.5-kilometre route through Ładna and Pogórska Wola; check the current signs before setting out. A section of the blue tourist cycle route and other PTTK cycling routes also pass through Ładna.
The difference in length between the footpath and the marked cycling route gives a sense of two different scales for activities in the area. The other cycle routes add to the options. An international road designated E4 also passes through Ładna. Check the current road numbering and traffic conditions before travelling.
Local history and the surrounding municipality
Ładna is documented on Austrian maps from the period of the partitions and appears in the 19th-century Geographical Dictionary of the Kingdom of Poland and Other Slavic Countries. Its historical references therefore range from maps of the partition period to a 19th-century geographical work.
Other historic buildings can be found in Skrzyszów. The wooden parish church of St Stanislaus there was built in 1517, extended in the 18th century, and retains Art Nouveau polychrome decoration from 1907 alongside older decoration. Skrzyszów also has a wooden manor house dating from the 19th century. The cultural history of Ładna and the architectural history of the administrative centre can therefore be considered as distinct topics in their own right.
The nature-related information applies to the municipality of Skrzyszów as a whole: a significant part of it lies within two landscape protection areas. The municipality is situated in the catchment areas of the Dunajec and Wisłoka rivers; the Wątok is its largest watercourse. These details complement the specific routes in Ładna with the municipality’s wider geographical context.
