In Górka Pabianicka, the parish church and parish cemetery are central to the historic character of the village. The church can be understood through its architectural style and furnishings; at the cemetery, the chapel and tombstones evoke stories passed down through the generations. Together, they offer two different perspectives on the village’s ecclesiastical heritage.

Neo-Gothic Parish Church and Its Furnishings

The present-day brick Neo-Gothic parish church was built between 1872 and 1875 to a design by Tadeusz Mankiewicz. Józef Bazyli Nowicki was the parish priest at the time. The single-nave building has a square tower at the front. It stands on a hill formed during the Ice Age, so its location and architectural form together contribute to its character.

The furnishings also combine different stylistic influences: the interior is predominantly Baroque and Rococo in style. They include three altars, a 19th-century Crucifixion painting, a Rococo feretory bearing an image of Saint Mary Magdalene, a Rococo crucifix, and Stations of the Cross. The parish church also has three bells dating from 1946. Check in advance whether it is possible to visit the interior.

Parish Cemetery, Chapel and Historical Connections

The Roman Catholic parish cemetery lies on a small rise and was established at the beginning of the 19th century. A simple wooden cemetery chapel dedicated to Saint Mary Magdalene stands there. It was built in the second half of the 19th century at the initiative of the parish priest at the time, Ignacy Papiewski. The cemetery is listed in the register of historic monuments of Łódź Voivodeship.

The chapel also has its own place in the village’s building history: after the old church burned down in 1858, services were held there for several years, until the present-day brick church was completed. This places the chapel in the period between the fire and the completion of the new church. Beside it is the historic tomb of the Smulski family, who owned an estate in Świątniki. The cemetery is also the burial place of Tomasz Błociszewski, the owner of an estate in Wymysłów. The two graves thus reflect different property connections.

Górka Pabianicka as a Stop on an Educational Trail

Górka Pabianicka is the fifth stop on the educational trail “Historia blisko Ciebie.” Its fixed stop number places the village along the route of this trail and adds another perspective to the history of the church and cemetery. If you include the trail in your travel plans, you can use Górka Pabianicka as a specific point of reference; the stop itself complements the local architectural and historical themes.

More Destinations in the Wider Pabianicki Destination

The wider Pabianicki destination also offers other distinct cultural attractions in Pabianice. The Renaissance manor known as “Zamkowy” lies in the Dobrzynka Valley at ul. Stary Rynek 1, north of the road. It is one of the valuable architectural monuments of 16th-century Polish architecture. Since the postwar period, the Museum of the City of Pabianice has been housed in the former manor of the Kraków Chapter canons. Pabianice thus brings together two distinct architectural-history themes: a Renaissance building and a historic manor that now serves as a museum.

The “Park im. Juliusza Słowackiego” by the castle in Pabianice also offers its own contrast in landscape design: the four-hectare garden has an English-style area on the left bank and a French-style area on the right bank. There are also different routes for walks and activities in Pabianice: “Pabianice zapisane na taśmie filmowej” is just under 6 km long and intended for walks or orienteering activities by groups of students. The second stage of the “Warto zobaczyć” route is a 9 km city trail taking in sights in Pabianice. The routes’ lengths and described uses help distinguish the two options.
