Zgierz’s historic character offers several starting points for a stay: its urban layout from the 1820s, preserved weavers’ houses, a museum, walking routes, and a park with a high ropes course. The Park Kulturowy Miasto Tkaczy focuses on protecting the historic town plan. The museum and Park Miejski offer different points of interest. If you’re looking for hotels in Zgierz, you can start by considering which of these sides of the city you’d like to shape your stay around.

Weavers’ houses and the historic town plan

Park Kulturowy Miasto Tkaczy was established in 2003 to protect Zgierz’s urban layout from the 1820s, which is unique in Europe. About 30 weavers’ houses have been preserved within the park. Its historic focus is therefore on both the individual houses and the townscape the park aims to preserve. If you’re interested in urban history, you’ll find a look here at architecture and the urban layout, rather than just a single building.

Visitors can access historic buildings in the park that house institutions and associations. At the same time, the area serves as a place for residents and tourists to relax. Architectural heritage and present-day use sit side by side here: the historic buildings are part of an area also used for everyday activities and recreation.

Museum in Dom pod lwami

The Muzeum Miasta Zgierza is located in Dom pod lwami, a building constructed in 1828 at ul. gen. J. H. Dąbrowskiego 21. The museum is therefore housed in a specific historic building. Its collection comprises around 5,000 objects spanning history, archaeology, ethnography, art, and numismatics. They document the past and present of Zgierz and Powiat zgierski.

The five collection areas offer different perspectives on the city and county. Numismatics, for example, deals with coins; alongside it are archaeological, ethnographic, and artistic perspectives. The collection also covers the present, not just the past. The museum thus complements the view of the weavers’ houses with a broader exploration of the city’s history and culture.

Park Miejski: a garden for walks and a high ropes course

Park Miejski was laid out as a promenade garden in 1826. The high ropes course is also located in Park Miejski im. Tadeusza Kościuszki. The courses described there differ in length and designated level: the green course is the easiest for children, measures 122.76 metres, and runs about three metres above the ground. The red course is for advanced participants and measures 221.20 metres. It is therefore just under 100 metres longer. Each length refers to the course specified.

Historic walks through Zgierz

The “Miasto Stuleci” route passes through the oldest part of Zgierz and showcases sites connected with important historic events in the city. It takes about three hours on foot, including a museum visit. The historic walk “Spacer historyczny: Nowa Osada w Zgierzu” takes a different approach: it allows you to explore the historic city area independently, at a time of your choosing. This distinction is useful when planning: an approximate walking time is given for the Miasto Stuleci route, while the walk lets you choose when to go independently.

These themes can be a starting point when looking for a hotel in Zgierz. Consider whether you’d rather focus your stay on the weavers’ houses and town plan, the museum, or the walking routes and park.
