Witnica: Park, Museums and Equestrian Trail
Accommodation in Witnica
Witnica offers several highlights for a stay: a park in the town centre, military history collections, brewing history, architecture and a Polish-German equestrian trail. If you are looking for a hotel in Witnica, it may help to first consider which of these topics interests you most. The sites and attractions differ both in subject matter and in their location.
Park and Historical Traces
The Drogowskazów i Słupów Milowych Cywilizacji Park covers more than seven hectares in the centre of Witnica and lies beside the Witna stream. The “Droga donikąd” installation is located within the park. It includes remnants of field fortifications and a fragment of the Berlin Wall. These tangible historical relics are therefore among the park’s themes.
Those interested in history will find two distinct points of reference here: the remains of field fortifications and a section of the Berlin Wall. This makes the installation a clearly defined historical highlight within the larger park.
Military History at the Museum
The collections of the Muzeum Chwały Oręża Polskiego are divided into three sections: “Wojsko Polskie 1919–1939”, “Polskie Siły Zbrojne na Zachodzie” and “Współczesne Siły Zbrojne”. The titles distinguish the Polish Armed Forces of 1919–1939, the Polish Armed Forces in the West and the contemporary armed forces. The museum’s subject can thus be understood through the structure of its own collections.
The museum also has an outdoor exhibition featuring cannons, howitzers and anti-aircraft guns. These weapons were used by the Polish Army during the Second World War. The collection’s themes and the outdoor exhibition offer different ways to explore the subject: the sections identify historical and organisational contexts, while the outdoor exhibition focuses on specific types of equipment.
Brewing History and Local Architecture
The Lubuskie Muzeum Browarnictwa is located on the brewery grounds, in a former malt house. Malt is produced in a malt house, so the former building points to one stage in the brewing process. The collection also extends beyond Witnica: the museum displays memorabilia from breweries in around 50 places where beer was brewed in what is now the Lubusz region.
Visitors can also use a device to create their own beer blend. Check before your visit whether this activity is currently available. This way, you can distinguish between exploring brewing history and memorabilia, on the one hand, and this possible hands-on activity, on the other.
The parish church in Witnica offers its own architectural highlight: it is Neo-Gothic and features Neo-Romanesque elements. Neo-Gothic draws on Gothic forms, while Neo-Romanesque is based on Romanesque architectural forms. These two terms help explain the church’s different architectural influences.
Event and Equestrian Trail
Witnickie Piwowaria is a recurring outdoor event held in Witnica since 2014. If an event date is important to your travel plans, check the dates for your planned travel period.
The Polsko–Niemiecki Szlak Konny Nowe Polichno–Pritzhagen is the first Polish-German equestrian trail and passes through the Witnica municipality. Within the municipality, it runs via the Bogdaniec Nature Reserve, Świerkocin, Witnica, Mościczki, Kamień Wielki, Młyniska and Dąbroszyn to Warniki. The trail is signposted, and maps of the route are available at tourist facilities. A map can help you familiarise yourself with the route in advance. While the park is a named site in the town centre, the equestrian trail covers several places across the municipality—a useful distinction when choosing between an urban cultural attraction and route planning.
