Zielonogórski: Museums, Nature and Trails
Accommodation in Zielonogórski
At the Lubuskie Muzeum Wojskowe in Drzonowo, military history collections are housed in the rooms of a 19th-century Neoclassical palace. The permanent exhibitions span the period from the Middle Ages to the present and are spread across four exhibition rooms. Heavy military equipment is also part of the collection in the palace park complex and an exhibition pavilion.
Museums and Preserved History
The military museum’s collection includes military vehicles, armored personnel carriers, tanks, and artillery, as well as fortification elements, aircraft, and helicopters. The collection ranges from indoor exhibits to large equipment displayed in the park complex and pavilion.
The Muzeum Archeologiczne Środkowego Nadodrza presents the permanent exhibition “Wicina – gród metalurgów sprzed 2500 lat.” On display are finds from a Bronze Age settlement of the Lusatian culture: jewelry made of bronze, gold, glass, and iron, weapons components, tools, and pottery. The Izba Pamiątek Regionalnych in Babimost offers another glimpse into everyday life. Its ethnographic collection includes agricultural tools, folk costumes, household items, musical instruments, and weaving equipment.
In Trzebiechów, Henry van de Velde designed the interiors of the Dom Pomocy Społecznej. The building was constructed in the first decade of the 20th century; original elements of the wooden door fittings, staircase, and glazing have been preserved, along with furniture, fireplaces, polychrome decoration, and other fittings. The information about its design also makes the building interesting from an architectural history perspective.
Woodland Landscapes and Trails
The Laski nature reserve protects woodland in the Gniła Obra valley. Wet meadows, natural ponds, and marshes complement the landscape, forming a species-rich ecosystem of flora and fauna. In the Radowice nature reserve, north of Podlegórz, the terrain is shaped by deep ravines covered with old beech forest. Streams rise from numerous springs in the forest.
Several trails offer different landscapes and routes. A 10-kilometer blue hiking trail runs from Trzebiechów via Podlegórz and Ostrzyce and back to Trzebiechów. The red Augusta Wilhelm Hans von Schierstaedt loop trail is 13 kilometers long and runs between Leśniów Mały and Laski. Another red trail runs along the southern slopes of Wał Zielonogórski between Zalew nad Ochlą and Wieża Bismarcka (Wilkanowska). It is 7.5 kilometers long, with an elevation difference of about 70 meters.
Specific cycling routes are also described: a 12-kilometer cycle path connects Babimost with scenic Lake Linie and then continues toward Kargowa. A 2-kilometer blue cycle path leads from Podlegórz to the Radowice nature reserve. Check trail conditions before setting out.
Water, Kayaking, and Seasonal Activities
Two kayaking routes lead to Cigacice: the 9-kilometer Oder kayaking route runs from Mielno via Wielobłota and Przytoczki; the 11-kilometer Obrzyca kayaking route goes there from Smolno Wielkie via Podlegórz, Radowice, and Górzykowo. Organized kayaking trips are available on the Bóbr. Its fast flow, gentle gradient, and slightly winding course offer a sporting challenge.
In Stary Kramsko, a marina built on Lake Wojnowskie offers residents and tourists water sports, recreation, and a safe place to stay. Check current facilities and water conditions before your visit. Zalew Świdnicki near Świdnica consists of two bodies of water with a combined area of five hectares. Its designated swimming area is supervised by lifeguards during the holiday season; check seasonal swimming conditions before visiting.
Lake Liwno is intended to be used as a base for a water sports center after thorough cleaning. The fish population supports sport fishing, and there is an area on the shore for sports and recreational events. Wine enthusiasts will also find an invitation from the winemakers at the Słoneczne Tarasy winery to visit the winery and sample its wines.
