Ciechanów brings together the city’s history, architecture, hands-on science and the Krubin bathing area. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus on museums and historic sites, hands-on experiments, water sports or cycling. Opinogóra also offers a distinct cultural focus in the wider region.

Museums, architectural history and places of remembrance

The Muzeum Szlachty Mazowieckiej in Ciechanów holds collections relating to the history of the Ciechanów region. One exhibition is titled “Utracony świat – ślady rodzin żydowskich w Ciechanowie do roku 1942” (“A Lost World – Traces of Jewish Families in Ciechanów up to 1942”) and explores the traces left by Jewish families in Ciechanów up to 1942. The museum’s collection also includes folk sculpture from the collection of Helena and Marian Przedpełski. The museum thus brings together regional history, the remembrance of Jewish families and a collection of folk art.

The Church of St. Joseph was built in the second half of the 14th century beside a medieval castle complex. Inside are historic mementos, commemorative plaques and epitaphs. Its date of construction and location connect it to medieval history; the mementos and epitaphs offer another aspect of the site.

Krzywa Hala, a distinctive historic building in the “Bloki” housing estate, reflects a different chapter of the city’s history. It was built in 1942–1943. A locomotive with an information board about the history of the narrow-gauge railway stands at the intersection of ul. Fabryczna and ul. Sienkiewicza. A section of track, paths, benches and waste bins have also been installed there. The site combines a tangible railway display with information about the history of the narrow-gauge railway.

Experiments and green spaces

At Park Nauki Torus, visitors can experiment independently and discover laws and connections. The main areas of focus are physics, mathematics, technology and architecture. Those interested in these subjects will find a different approach here from that offered by historical collections: the emphasis is on trying things out and exploring connections between disciplines.

The Green Maze is on Skwer 4 czerwca 1989 roku, on ul. Fabryczna. It is open to visitors; its winding paths are one metre wide and laid out in a triangular shape. These details describe the distinctive layout without implying any particular level of difficulty. As local conditions should be checked before a visit, a quick check before planning is recommended.

Krubin: water sports and cycling route

Water sports are available at Kąpielisko Krubin, along with kayak and pedal boat rentals. There is also a sandy beach and a bathing area. Bathing facilities are seasonal, and visitor services may change. Check in advance which services will be available when you visit.

A cycling route runs from the centre of Ciechanów to Kąpielisko Krubin, where there is a city bike rental station. This makes two specific features of the same destination stand out when planning your trip: the water sports and bathing facilities at Krubin, and the cycling route from the city centre. If you plan to rent a bike, check availability in advance.

Opinogóra in the wider region

In Ciechanów County, the Ciechanów–Opinogóra itinerary is designed as a two-day weekend programme. It combines the search for the treasure of the Masovian princes with Romanticism. The Muzeum Romantyzmu in Opinogóra offers guided tours, museum classes and practical workshops. This distinguishes the details of the regional weekend programme from the specific museum offerings in Opinogóra: one describes the themed route, while the other describes ways to visit the museum.

This makes it easier to choose what to focus on: in Ciechanów, the emphasis is on collections, architectural history and the narrow-gauge railway; Park Nauki Torus offers independent experimentation, while Krubin combines a bathing area with a cycling route. Opinogóra complements these local attractions with the theme of Romanticism and museum offerings.
