Legionowo: Museums, Park and Cycling Routes
Accommodation in Legionowo
If you’re looking for a hotel in Legionowo, culture, green spaces and themed routes offer different reasons to choose this destination. Permanent exhibitions explore the city’s history and archaeological finds; Park Zdrowia and the “Legionowskie Parki” cycling route offer a different focus. There is also a patriotic tourist trail with memorial sites. Before booking, you can weigh up which of these themes matters most for your stay.
City history at the museum
The permanent exhibition “Dzieje Legionowa 1877–1990” at the museum pavilion at 23 A. Mickiewicza features a total of 363 historical objects. It covers the history of Legionowo from 1877 to 1990. Another permanent exhibition, “De Profundis… Archeologia ziem powiatu legionowskiego,” displays finds from the Muzeum Historyczne w Legionowie’s own excavations. The two exhibitions have different focuses: historical objects relating to the city’s history and archaeological finds from the museum’s work.
The “Piaski” branch of the Muzeum Historyczne w Legionowie is located in the former officers’ casino. Its two exhibition rooms explore the history of the Legionowo garrison. The garrison’s history thus adds another specific perspective on Legionowo to the subjects of the two permanent exhibitions.
Park Zdrowia and cycling routes
Since June 2015, Park Zdrowia has had a free brine graduation tower, the first of its kind and the second in Masovia. The park also offers shaded benches, paths among the trees and an outdoor gym. These facilities give the park a distinct focus alongside the museum exhibits.
Routes with different focuses
The “Legionowskie Parki” cycling route connects all the parks in Legionowo. The patriotic tourist trail “Polski Walczącej” has a different focus: in Legionowo, it comprises three sections and passes 28 memorial sites. The two routes can therefore be distinguished by their themes: one connects parks, while the other passes memorial sites.
Regional context: Legionowski
Beyond information about the city, the wider destination of Legionowski provides a regional context. Legionowski County lies in the Warsaw Basin, in the central part of the Masovian Lowland, and mostly in the area between the Vistula and Narew rivers. A significant part of the county belongs to the Warszawski Obszar Chronionego Krajobrazu (Warsaw Protected Landscape Area). Regional protected areas include Wąwóz Szaniawskiego, where natural forests on the steep slope of the Narew are protected, and Wieliszewskie Łęgi. This nature reserve was established to preserve a variety of natural plant communities with numerous orchid species.
Jezioro Zegrzyńskie is also part of the wider destination of Legionowski. The reservoir was created in 1963 by damming the lower Narew at Dębe. The lake is used for sailing and has been home to sailing schools for many years. These water and nature conservation themes complement local insights into Legionowo with a distinct regional perspective.
