Łosice Between the Reservoir, City History and Nature
Accommodation in Łosice
Łosice combines a close-up view of the Łosicki Reservoir with brick architecture, traces of the past and a museum of regional history. By the water, the walking and cycling path, educational trail and survey boat take centre stage; in the town, the church, market square and tower foundations point to other themes. If you are considering Łosice as a destination for a hotel stay, these different highlights can help you tailor your trip to your interests.
Water and outdoor activities at the Łosicki Reservoir
There is a walking and cycling path at the Łosicki Reservoir. The “Środowisko wodne” (“Aquatic Environment”) educational trail adds an explicitly water-related theme to a visit. The path and trail therefore offer different ways to explore the area: exercise along the path and learning about a particular subject on the trail. The survey boat Ł-3, said to be the only one of its kind in Poland, is also beside the reservoir. Those interested in technical or site-specific features will find another distinct highlight by the water.
Church and historical traces
The Roman Catholic Church of St. Zygmunt Król i Męczennik in Łosice is an unplastered brick building with Neo-Gothic features. Its interior layout is also part of its architecture: the three-aisled hall is divided into four bays by pillars. The building can thus be explored through its materials, style and spatial layout.
On Łosice’s historic market square, the town hall had a wooden main structure and a brick tower. The foundations of the town tower, dating from the early 16th century, are also in Łosice. These historical traces offer a different focus from the church, directing attention to the market square and the older layout of the town.
Photographic records at the museum
The Waldemar Kosieradzki Museum of History and Tradition in Łosice presents an exhibition about the “Zenon” partisan unit of the Home Army’s 34th Infantry Regiment. It includes 128 photographs, including archival images from the Second World War. Its focus on a specific unit and photographic records offers a different historical perspective from the architectural themes of the church, town hall and town tower.
Nature in the municipality
The view of nature extends beyond the town of Łosice into the surrounding municipality. A total of 115 breeding bird species have been recorded in the Łosice town and municipality area in recent years. The fishponds at Woźniki and Rudnik in the Toczna Valley provide a refuge for numerous breeding and migratory bird species. This information combines an overview of birdlife across the municipality with specific landscape features in the Toczna Valley.
The municipality of Łosice also lies on a tourist route to places in the Bug Valley area of the “Podlaski Przełom Bugu” Landscape Park. This adds a broader focus on destinations in this landscape to the local highlights.
Road and rail connections at different levels
Łosice is a local road transport hub where the Lublin–Białystok, Warsaw–Siedlce–Białystok and Warsaw–Janów Podlaski–Terespol routes meet. By contrast, the Warsaw–Hajnówka railway line runs through the northwestern part of the municipality, and there is a railway station in Niemojki. This distinction matters for getting around: the road connections converge in the town of Łosice, while the railway line and station are located within the municipality.
