Accommodation in Kamianka
Kamianka combines a First World War memorial site with local Catholic history, an area along the Narew riverbank, and municipal leisure facilities. For planning your trip, it is helpful to consider places and date-dependent events separately.
Memorial site by the Narew
An important point of cultural and historical interest is the First World War military cemetery. The number of German and Russian soldiers buried there is unknown; they died between 25 August and 4 September 1915. The cemetery lies on the high eastern bank of the Narew, about 1.5 kilometres west of the town centre. It is regarded as a memorial site for Kamianka’s residents and as evidence of operations on the Eastern Front during the First World War. At the same time, the site is an example of wartime cemetery architecture of that period. The site brings together three perspectives: individual remembrance, military history, and the design of a war cemetery.
Churches and local history
A Catholic cemetery in Kamianka was established towards the end of the 19th century next to the wooden chapel of Saint Anne. The town also has a Roman Catholic filial church dedicated to Saint Anne, built in 1980. Ecclesiastically, Kamianka belongs to the parish of Our Lady of Częstochowa in Borawe. The historical reference points therefore range from the end of the 19th century to the church built in 1980: the cemetery and chapel represent an older layer of local history, while the filial church represents a later period of construction.
Narew riverbank and leisure
Another perspective is offered by the recreation area on the Narew riverbank next to the chapel of Saint Anne. The area includes a high escarpment, access down to the river, and wide meadows. The combination of the steep slope, river access, and open spaces defines this area. If you include it in your plans, check its current condition before visiting: the infrastructure may change over time.
Kamianka’s municipal leisure facilities include a playground, an outdoor fitness area, and a football pitch. The playground has swings, slides, a sandbox, a chess table, and a climbing boulder. These opportunities for exercise and play complement the town’s cultural and historical attractions with additional municipal facilities.
Festivals and water events
The 2025 programme included a recurring family kayaking trip. Kamianka also hosts the recurring water event “Spływ na Byle Czym”; an announcement in 2026 referred to another edition following the previous year’s event. If you would like to plan your stay around one of these dates, check locally for the latest information.
Kamianka traditionally celebrates a festival in honour of Saint Anne. At a celebration for the occasion, the Kamianka Rural Housewives’ Circle prepared regional dishes. This adds a culinary aspect to the religious occasion and the town’s sacred history.
