Piaseczyński: Nature Trails, Culture and Czersk Castle
Accommodation in Piaseczyński
In Piaseczyński, paths through forests and nature reserves sit alongside historic buildings and the spa park in Konstancin-Jeziorna. The routes vary in length and course: they run through the Chojnowskie Forests, connect protected areas or pass between places such as Konstancin-Jeziorna, Góra Kalwaria and Czersk.
Hiking Trails and Nature Reserves
The yellow-marked Szlak Południkowy is 28 kilometres long. It runs from Piaseczno railway station via Zalesie Dolne, Górki Szymona, Zimne Doły and Zalesie Górne, through the Łoś Nature Reserve and on through Nowy Prażmów to Prażmów. At 30 kilometres, the Szlak rezerwatów przyrody is even longer: its sequence of places and protected areas includes Zalesie Górne, Zimne Doły, Uroczysko Stephana, Chojnów, Obory, Skarpa Oborska, Olszyna Łyczyńska and Łęgi Oborskie, as well as Konstancin-Jeziorna; from there, the trail continues to Ursynów.
A shorter route is the ten-kilometre Chojnowski szlak zabytków przyrody. It runs through the Chojnów, Pilawski Grąd and Uroczysko Stephana nature reserves. The yellow-and-green-marked trail from Konstancin-Jeziorna to Góra Kalwaria and Czersk is 24.5 kilometres long. It starts at the corner of Piłsudskiego and Sienkiewicza streets in Konstancin-Jeziorna; from there, the route continues via the Obory Nature Reserve, Słomczyn, Cieciszew and Dębówka. The routes can therefore be distinguished by their length and the destinations listed for each.
The Chojnowski Landscape Park has seven marked hiking trails and a network of educational trails for walkers and cyclists. A clear rule applies to visits to the park’s eleven nature reserves: they may be visited only via existing paths and marked hiking trails. Keep this restriction in mind when planning your route.
Birdlife and Parks
At the Żabieniec pond complex, visitors can observe, among other species, goosanders, black-necked grebes, red-necked grebes and little grebes. Teals, bearded reedlings, penduline tits and black storks are also among the species found there. The pond complex offers a specific connection with nature alongside the hiking trails and protected areas.
Zdrojowy Park is in the centre of the spa district of Konstancin-Jeziorna. Its main avenue connects Piłsudskiego Street with the graduation tower. The park has three playgrounds for children and young people, a volleyball court and outdoor fitness equipment. The Zimne Doły recreation complex has fire pits, covered shelters, a playground and a forest car park.
The Castle, Building History and Literature
The medieval Gothic castle in Czersk was built by Duke Janusz the Elder around the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries, on the site of an earlier fortification. At the eastern foot of the castle lies Lake Czerskie, a former Vistula oxbow lake that is fully protected as a natural monument. The castle and lake thus bring together architectural history and a distinctive landform.
In Piaseczno, the town hall is a reminder of 19th-century Neoclassical architecture: built in 1823, it now houses the offices of the Muzeum Piaseczna. Another historical and literary trace leads to Zalesie Dolne, now part of Piaseczno. The Dom Zośki there is the wooden summer house of the Zawadzki family. It is associated with the memoirs of Tadeusz Zawadzki, known as “Zośka”, which were used in “Kamienie na szaniec”.
The graduation tower in Konstancin is also part of the spa town’s history: it opened on 21 July 1978. As the brine evaporates, it creates a microclimate in the surrounding area that resembles the climate on the seashore. Zdrojowy Park, the graduation tower and the historic buildings thus offer a different focus from the forest trails and nature reserves.
