Wołomin combines nature with architectural history and a range of cultural offerings. To get your bearings, it helps to look at two different scales: part of the municipality lies within a landscape protection area, while another protected area is immediately south of the town. Historical buildings and cultural facilities, as well as tourist information, round out the picture. This makes it possible to explore the area through a range of themes.

Nature in the municipality and south of the town

Part of the municipality of Wołomin lies within the Warsaw Landscape Protection Area. For precise boundaries, consult current planning documents. The Białe Błota peat bog and its surrounding forests are among the municipality’s most valuable natural areas. The bog and forest give this nature theme a specific focus, complementing Wołomin’s cultural and architectural attractions with a landscape perspective.

The Grabicz bird sanctuary is immediately south of Wołomin; the Warsaw Battles tourist cycling route runs alongside the protected area. Unlike the landscape protection area, which covers part of the municipality, Grabicz is therefore a southern point of reference.

Culture and tourist information

The Stara Elektrownia in Wołomin is now the Centrum Aktywności Wołomin. This modernized venue hosts meetings, workshops, concerts and other cultural events. A variety of cultural activities take place there.

In 2024, the centre regularly offered classes for children, young people, adults and seniors. If a particular class or concert is part of your travel plans, check the latest schedule in advance.

The Centrum Informacji Turystyczno-Historycznej in Ossów has a tourist information centre and an exhibition area. It also features a cinema hall that can be used for conferences, multimedia touchscreens and a virtual presenter. The centre thus combines tourist information, exhibitions and multimedia presentations.

Architectural history across several periods

The parish church of Matki Boskiej Częstochowskiej was built between 1951 and 1962, replacing an earlier church that stood from 1922 to 1944. These two periods distinguish the history of the previous building from the construction of the later church.

Another place of interest is the 1863 Warsaw–St Petersburg Railway building on Żelazna Street. Villa Laurentium and its garden date from around 1920 and are also among Wołomin’s places of interest. This selection spans the 19th-century railway building, the villa from around 1920 and the church built between 1951 and 1962; the church’s predecessor stood from 1922 to 1944.
