Danowskie offers several ways to plan a stay: the international R11 cycling route passes through the village, hiking trails start here or pass through Danowskie, and a 35 km canoe route leads from here to Augustów. Lake Blizno has a well-developed bathing area; seasonal food establishments serve fish dishes and regional cuisine. When planning your trip, you can consider whether cycling, hiking or a water-based trip should be your main focus.

Cycling and hiking around Danowskie

The international EURO VELO R-11 cycling route passes through Danowskie. The 2016 visitor guide describes the section from Danowskie to Wysoki Most as approximately 30 km long. The route passes through Monkinie, Bryzgiel, Gawrych Ruda, Sobolewo, Leszczewek, Stary Folwark, Magdalenowo, Czerwony Folwark, Rosochaty Róg and Maćkowa Ruda. The approximate distance and long list of places give you concrete guidance when planning a cycling stage.

The yellow-marked Danowskie–Tobołowo–Sarnetki trail is 12 km long and forms part of the longer Augustów–Mikaszówka trail. A 79 km hiking route designated “yellow I” passes through Augustów, Lake Jezioro Długie (Kalejty), Strękowizna, Uroczysko Powstańce and Danowskie to Studziany Las, then continues along the Czarna Hańcza and through Frącki and Rygol to Mikaszówka.

A blue-marked hiking trail starts in Danowskie and leads through Upustek, Ateny, Płociczno, Sobolewo and Leszczewo to Krzywe in Wigry National Park. In the center of the village, right next to the passage between Lakes Blizno and Blizienko, the red-marked trail to Krusznik begins; the yellow-marked Augustów–Mikaszówka trail also passes through there. Before setting out, check the current trail markings and conditions for your chosen hiking or cycling route.

Canoe route and time by the water

The 35 km canoe route leads from Danowskie across Lake Blizno onto the Blizna River, then onto the Rospuda and onward across Lake Necko to Augustów. The route description recommends paddling through the passages to also visit Lakes Blizienko and Tobołowo. Thus, in addition to the sequence of lake and rivers, the description also includes these two expressly recommended bodies of water. Before setting out, check the current conditions on the canoe route.

Lake Blizno has a well-developed bathing area. The municipal beach in Danowskie has a waterslide; ask about the facility’s current condition before your visit. The bathing area and waterslide are concrete options to consider if you would like to include time by the water in your plans.

Seasonal cuisine in Danowskie

Seasonal food establishments serve fish dishes or regional specialties such as kartacze, kiszki, babki ziemniaczane and soczewiaki. If you would like to try one of these dishes during your stay, check what is currently on offer for your travel dates. Seasonal cuisine is therefore another aspect to consider when planning, alongside outdoor activities.

The three routes with stated distances differ in both activity and length: the yellow hiking trail to Sarnetki is 12 km long, the R11 section to Wysoki Most is approximately 30 km, and the canoe route to Augustów is 35 km. This comparison can help you decide whether hiking, cycling or paddling should be the main focus of your stay.
