Supraśl: Theater, Icons and Trails
Accommodation in Supraśl
Different themes come together in Supraśl: Teatr Wierszalin is based here, a permanent exhibition is devoted to icons, and marked routes lead through the town or run to or from Supraśl. When planning your stay, you can consider culture and activity separately: theater and icons provide a cultural focus, while walks and trails offer different routes and formats.
Theater and Icons
Teatr Wierszalin was founded in 1991 by director Piotr Tomaszuk and a group of artists who worked with him. The theater has received the Fringe First award three times, a prize presented at the international theater festival in Edinburgh. Its base in Supraśl connects the town with the theater’s history; the award also points to its festival connection in Edinburgh.
Another cultural stop is the Muzeum Ikon w Supraślu. Its permanent exhibition includes canonical icon paintings from the 18th and 19th centuries. This brings two distinct periods into focus: the theater was founded in 1991, while the exhibited icon paintings date from earlier centuries. Those interested in theater history and icons will find two clearly distinct subjects to explore during their stay.
Marked Trails and Guided Walks
The yellow-marked Szlak Supraski is 17 km long. It runs from Supraśl via Podsupraśl, the Jałówka Nature Reserve, Ożynnik, and Złota Wieś to Czarny Blok. The route passes through forest areas; good conditions for cross-country skiing are reported there in winter. The route description thus combines a specific sequence of places with a seasonal note for winter planning.
A longer alternative is the green-marked Szlak Borami Dorzecza Supraśli, at 35 km, which passes through Supraśl. The town is considered a tourist center of the Puszcza Knyszyńska and a place with a concentration of architectural monuments from the 17th to the 19th centuries. Comparing the two trails, the 17 km Szlak Supraski is set against the 35 km Szlak Borami Dorzecza Supraśli; their described focuses also differ: forest areas and winter cross-country skiing on the one hand, and Supraśl’s location in the Puszcza Knyszyńska and its architectural monuments on the other.
The Szwędaczki Supraskie are walks lasting about 1.5 hours, led by a guide and accompanied by the characters Wodnik, Rusałka, Biała Dama, and Duch Puszczy. The offering is for organized groups and individual visitors. The starting point is by the Kopart shop on ul. 3-go Maja in Supraśl. If you are planning to take one of these walks, check before your visit whether it is currently being offered.
Kayaking Route, Cycling Route, and Salt Graduation Tower
The blue-marked Kresowe Wędrówki kayaking route is about 80 km long and passes through Supraśl, among other places. Its approximate overall length gives it a different scale from the two shorter trails described above. The route is designated as a waterway; its description names Supraśl as one of the places along the way.
A cycling route is also associated with Supraśl: the proposed route is about 20 km long and runs from Most na Zajmie via Krzemienne, Surażkowo, Łaźnie, and Kopna Góra to Supraśl. Since this is a suggested route, check trail conditions before setting out. The stated length is approximate, not exact.
A dry salt graduation tower, classified as a medical device, is located in the Ogrod Saski in Supraśl. If you are considering a visit, check current operating information in advance. This allows you to include the salt graduation tower in your plans without assuming that a particular visit option is available.
The activities described offer different points of reference when choosing what to do: theater and icons represent culture, the walks offer a guided format, and the routes differ in length, course, and type. Looking for a hotel in Supraśl and deciding in advance which themes suit you can make planning your stay easier.
