With two historic wooden churches, a preserved village layout, and several routes passing through the village, Trześcianka offers different starting points for a stay. You can plan your trip around the architectural history of individual places of worship, the settlement layout, or a particular route theme.

Wooden Churches and Architectural History

The Orthodox parish church of St. Michael the Archangel is a wooden, rectangular, weatherboarded church. It was built between 1864 and 1867 on the site of a church that burned down in 1835. The dates are therefore clear: 1835 refers to the fire that destroyed the predecessor building, while 1864 to 1867 is the construction period of the present church. The sequence of the two places of worship is part of its history, alongside its architectural form.

A second wooden church stands in the parish cemetery in Trześcianka. Dedicated to the Apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary, it dates from the early 19th century and was moved from Białowieża to its present location in the late 19th century. Its history is therefore different from that of St. Michael’s Church: here, its early origins and later relocation shape its connection to the village; St. Michael’s was built on the site of the predecessor church that burned down in 1835. Both buildings are made of wood, but their historical points of reference differ.

Village Layout and Routes

Trześcianka has preserved its spatial village layout from the 16th century, associated with włóczna land measurement. It is characterized by buildings on both sides of a street. The focus thus shifts from individual buildings to the form of the village as a whole: the buildings along the street make the layout tangible as a distinct historical subject. Together with the churches, this makes it possible to distinguish architectural history from settlement structure.

The green-marked Szlak Krainy Otwartych Okiennic runs through the village along the Narew–Ancuty–Trześcianka–Soce–Puchły route. In the order listed, Trześcianka lies between Ancuty and Soce. Check the current trail markings on site before planning your route. The difference between the routes is specific: the sequence of villages is given for this green trail, while the Podlaski Szlak Bociani is designated as a cycling route.

The Podlaski Szlak Bociani passes through Trześcianka as a cycling route. Along the way, you can experience the landscapes along the Narew; the white stork is a distinctive feature of the local landscape. Cycling and scenery are therefore the focus here, while the two churches are best understood through their architectural forms and history. Route conditions may vary; take this into account when planning.

The Szlak Świątyń Prawosławnych also passes through Trześcianka. The Podlaski Szlak Kulturowy „Drzewo i Sacrum“ also runs through the village. It was created to showcase the beauty of wooden architecture, as well as places of particular interest and value to tourists in Powiat bielski and Powiat hajnowski. Its purpose therefore encompasses both wooden architecture and places in these two Powiat. Compared with the churches and the cycling route, it offers its own cultural theme.
