Okuniowiec can be viewed at two scales when planning a trip: the landscaped public space in the village and the longer “Nad Szeszupę” route, which passes through the village. If you also take local paths into account when choosing a destination, you can distinguish between local infrastructure and a tour with several stops. The pavilion, walking path and road project are part of the village; the 47-kilometre route runs from Suwałki railway station to a nature reserve.

Public Space in Okuniowiec

On 23 July 2024, Gmina Suwałki accepted the completed public-space improvements in Okuniowiec. The project included a recreation pavilion with four table-and-bench sets. A solar lamp illuminates the area in front of it. The facilities therefore serve not only the pavilion but also the space in front of it. For travellers who consider public amenities alongside excursions when choosing a destination, this landscaped area is one of the tangible features of the village.

Walking Path and Road Construction

A concrete-paved walking path was built along road No. 102016B and a local village road. It is 1,216.54 metres long and 2.20 metres wide; the municipality accepted the completed path on 28 November 2024. Its alignment, surface and dimensions give a concrete sense of this local pedestrian connection.

A separate construction project concerns the road from county road No. 1153B to municipal road No. 102016B. In 2022, it was upgraded from a gravel road to a paved road. The road section is approximately 1,000 metres long and 5 metres wide; the work included an asphalt carriageway, a shared pedestrian and cycle path, and street lighting. The length of around 1,000 metres refers to the road, not to the separately described walking path.

The “Nad Szeszupę” Route

The “Nad Szeszupę” route is 47 kilometres long. It runs from Suwałki railway station via Lake Okuniowiec and the village of Okuniowiec, past the buildings of Osinki and the settlement of Studzieniczne, to the “Cmentarzysko Jaćwingów” nature reserve. This sequence makes Okuniowiec identifiable as a stop on a longer tour: in the described route, the village lies between the railway station in Suwałki and the reserve at the end.

Comparing Local Paths and a Longer Tour

The information covers three scales: the landscaped public space, the walking path and road project, and a route with several stops. The walking path is 1,216.54 metres long, the road project concerns a section approximately 1,000 metres long, and the route extends for 47 kilometres. This can help you decide whether to focus your trip on Okuniowiec as a village with its own infrastructure or on a longer tour through the village.
