Nowa Karczma: Local History and Routes
The “Kościół p.w. św. Antoniego” church and the memorial chapel give Nowa Karczma two distinct historical points of reference. There are also routes with specified lengths and the National Anthem Museum in nearby Będomin. When choosing a hotel in Nowa Karczma, you can first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: local history, a particular type of route or an exhibition with a fixed time period. The destinations are at different geographical levels: the church and memorial chapel are in Nowa Karczma, the longer routes relate to the municipality, and the museum is in Będomin.
Compare Routes by Length and Type
The combined walking and cycling route Nowa Karczma–Nowy Barkoczyn is 5 km long. It connects the municipality’s administrative and service centre with Nowy Barkoczyn on Lake Barkocińskie. The “Szlak rowerowy im. Józefa Wybickiego” cycle route runs through the municipality of Nowa Karczma; its section from Lake Łąkie to Będomin is 12 km long. The municipality is also home to the green Stolemowe Nordic walking route, which is 13.7 km long.
The three figures differ both in length and in route type and scope: 5 km for the combined walking and cycling route, 12 km for a section of the cycle route, and 13.7 km for the Nordic walking route. The 5 km connection is the shortest of the three. For the longer distances, the 12 km figure refers to a section between two named places, while the 13.7 km refers to the Stolemowe route. When comparing a trip, it is therefore useful to consider the route type and named reference point as well as the distance.
Church and Memorial Chapel
The “Kościół p.w. św. Antoniego” church is on the right-hand side of the road from Kościerzyna to Nowa Karczma. In July 1984, it became a parish church. In the centre of Nowa Karczma, a memorial chapel commemorates residents of the municipality who were murdered in 1939. The two places mark different historical periods: the church’s parish status in 1984 and the commemoration of those murdered in 1939.
Lakes and Natura 2000 in the Municipality
The municipality of Nowa Karczma has numerous lakes with a combined area of just under 300 ha. This area figure refers to all the lakes together, not to a single lake. In addition, six areas belonging to the European Natura 2000 network are located within the municipality. The lake area and the number of Natura 2000 areas describe different aspects of the municipality.
Exhibitions in Nearby Będomin
In nearby Będomin, the National Anthem Museum is showing the permanent exhibition “The History of Mazurek Dąbrowski” and the exhibition “Józef Wybicki and His Time” until 31 December 2026. The exhibition titles cover different subjects: one focuses on the history of Mazurek Dąbrowski, the other on Józef Wybicki and his time. Both exhibitions have the same stated end date. If you plan to visit one in particular, take this time limit into account when planning your trip.
Seasonal Circular Route in the Timetable
The municipal timetable lists a circular route on weekdays during the summer holidays, running from Nowa Karczma via Śledziowa Huta, Grabowska Huta and Sztofrowa Huta, and back to Nowa Karczma. The service is therefore limited to weekdays during the summer holidays. If you are considering this connection for your plans, check the timetable for your chosen dates.
