Myszewko is located in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, in Nowy Dwór Gdański County and the Municipality of Nowy Dwór Gdański, in the Wielkie Żuławy Malborskie area. A specific architectural landmark is the preserved listed arcade house at Myszewko 4/4a. A wayside shrine and two named cycling routes provide additional points of reference in the village.

The arcade house and its construction

The listed arcade house at Myszewko 4/4a is a half-timbered building dating from 1793, with elements from the 20th century. The deep arcade is supported by six wooden columns. These support an upper-storey structure built in half-timbering, with the spaces between the timbers filled with Dutch bricks. The architectural details are described in a 2022 resolution of the voivodeship.

The windows are double-leaf and divided into six panes, with triangular pediments and shutters. Some of the original windows have been replaced by double-leaf windows without muntins. Thus, both the window designs that were installed and changes to the original fabric form part of the house’s architectural history. The half-timbered building’s 1793 date and its 20th-century elements mark distinct periods.

The village’s history offers another historical connection: in the 17th and 18th centuries, Myszewko was a village in the outer bailiwick district of Elbląg. This administrative classification adds another perspective to the arcade house’s architectural history.

Cycling and local orientation

There are two named routes for cyclists. The “Wycieczka SM Nowego Stawu i IAM nr 2” cycling route passes through Myszewko. The “Północny szlak przez Żuławy” mountain bike trail runs from Różewo through Myszewko to Myszkowo. If you plan to take either route, check the route and its conditions before setting out. There is also a wayside shrine in Myszewko.

Culture in the wider destination of Tiegenhof

The wider destination of Tiegenhof also encompasses distinct cultural and historical features in Nowy Dwór Gdański that form part of the regional context. The swing bridge over the Tuga in the town centre was built in 1936 and restored in 2019. The Tuga is the main waterway of the Municipality of Nowy Dwór Gdański and flows through Nowy Dwór Gdański. A canoe station is located on Wejhera Street along the riverside promenade. The bridge, river and canoe station each offer a different focus: architectural history and the relationship with the water.

The Żuławy Museum is located in Żuławski Park Historyczny, in a former cheese factory and dairy building dating from 1902. The museum houses Poland’s largest exhibition on Mennonites. Another landmark is the water tower, built in 1909: it is 30 metres high and stands in the town park on Tuwima Street.

Żuławski Ośrodek Kultury hosts workshops, concerts, performances, meetings and artistic projects; it also runs the ŻUŁAWY cinema. The history of the area also includes Stobbes Machandel: the distillery where the famous juniper schnapps Machandel was produced until 1945 was established in Nowy Dwór Gdański in 1776.
