Darżlubie is located in the Gmina Puck, in Powiat pucki and in the Pomeranian Voivodeship in northern Poland. The village lies on Kępa Pucka, at the eastern edge of the Puszcza Darżlubska. When choosing a hotel in Darżlubie, you can consider whether you would like to focus your stay primarily on the village’s history, its former forest administration or destinations in the surrounding area to the west.

Green Village and Local History

Darżlubie retains the form of a long green village with a pond at its centre. The road to Puck runs through the village. The oldest surviving records of Darżlubie date from 1296 and 1300. Another historical trace is the forest administration: from 1827 to 1973, Darżlubie was the seat of a forest district, initially royal and later state-run. The early written records and its later role as a forest district provide two distinct points in time for exploring the village’s history.

Forest Landscape and Memorial Sites

The wider area includes the Puszcza Darżlubska protected landscape area. It covers large parts of Kępa Pucka, the Piaśnica sandur and the Jezioro Dobrego trough. The Puszcza is a forest complex on the Baltic Sea in the Pobrzeże Kaszubskie geographical region. It includes two nature reserves and is the source of the Piaśnica and Gizdepka rivers. The Puszcza Darżlubska, in the wider area around Darżlubie, is also associated with the martyrdom of Polish and Jewish people during the Second World War. During the war, it was the site of mass murders of Polish civilians.

Darżlubskie Buki Nature Reserve lies 3 km west of Darżlubie and protects a natural part of the former Puszcza Darżlubska forest. It covers 28.90 hectares of 160-year-old beech, pine and oak forest. Groty Mechowskie cave is also located 3 km to the west. The Church of Saints James and Nicholas in Mechowo is 3½ km to the west. The cave and the church are therefore two separate destinations in the same direction; the distances given should not be equated with walking time or route length.

Understanding Routes and Getting There

The Grot Mechowskich hiking trail runs along Leśników Street, past the former forest district office. Check trail conditions before setting out. A route description last updated on 28 January 2022 identifies the green Wejherowo–Darżlubie cycle route as a cycling trail. The two options differ in how they are described: the hiking trail passes the former forest district office, while the cycle route is designated as a connection between Wejherowo and Darżlubie.

Bus route 649 connects Brudzewo, Celbowo, Połczyno and Darżlubie. If you plan to travel by bus, check the current timetable for your travel date. You can organise your stay around distinct themes: the village itself offers its green-village layout and forest history, while the named destinations in Mechowo and Darżlubskie Buki lie to the west. This lets you plan your days around local history, forest landscapes or nearby excursion destinations.
