Wierzchucino combines a traditional rural settlement pattern with a location by bodies of water and a layered local history. When looking for a hotel in Wierzchucino, you can decide whether you are most interested in the village’s history, the waterside landscape, or destinations in the surrounding area.

Waterside Setting and Village Character

Wierzchucino lies on the Bychowska Struga and at the northwestern edge of Lake Żarnowieckie. Its preserved traditional, multi-street settlement layout is typical of historic rural settlements. The two bodies of water and the village’s established form describe different aspects of the destination: its setting in the landscape and its settlement structure. There is also a historic watermill on the Bychowska Struga. The river is therefore not only part of the village’s setting, but is also associated with a historic building in Wierzchucino.

The Szlak Północnych Kaszub, or North Kashubian Trail, also runs through Wierzchucino. As trail conditions and signage may change, check the current route information before setting out.

Churches and Historic Buildings

The parish church in Wierzchucino was consecrated on September 6, 1931. Another ecclesiastical attraction is the former Neo-Gothic Protestant church, built in 1882, with its historic cemetery. The dates refer to different events: 1882 is the year of the former Protestant church, while September 6, 1931, is the date the parish church was consecrated.

Other historic buildings include an early 20th-century manor house surrounded by a park. Buildings belonging to a former folwark (manor farm) have also been preserved. The remains of a German center for preparing for the Olympic Games date from the 1930s. These architectural remains can thus be placed in their historical and factual context: the manor house dates to the early 20th century, while the preparation center is associated with the 1930s. The preserved folwark buildings form another part of the village’s history.

Memorial and Nature Destinations Nearby

About 1 km west of the present-day built-up area of Wierzchucino, right beside Provincial Road 213 toward Choczewo, is a restored Protestant cemetery. A monument there bears the names of 44 residents of Wierzchucino and the nearby area who fell between 1914 and 1918. The cemetery and monument connect the village with a specific memorial to the First World War.

About 3 km east of Wierzchucino is the Długosz Królewski nature reserve, in the buffer zone of the Coastal Landscape Park. Another nature experience nearby is associated with the Piaśnica watercourse: between Żarnowiec and Wierzchucino, it flows out of Lake Żarnowieckie. This outflow is a popular starting point for kayak trips that end at a beach near Dębem. The Piaśnica flows directly into the Baltic Sea. This offers different options for visitors: the nature reserve east of the village and kayaking in the river’s surroundings.
