Discover Ocypel: Forest Trails, Summer and History
Accommodation in Ocypel
Ocypel offers a range of reasons to visit: trails through the forests, summer events and traces of the village’s history. If you’re looking for a hotel in Ocypel, these highlights can help you plan your trip: would you most like to go hiking and observe nature, attend an event or explore the area’s history?
Forest trails, outdoor activities and nature
The 22.4-kilometre blue-marked section of the Izydora-Gulgowskiego Trail runs from Kaliska to Ocypel. Here, the trail connects with the red-marked Kociewie Lakes Trail, allowing you to continue your hike south. The details about its length, markings and endpoints help you distinguish this section from the possible continuation.
The forests around Ocypel also offer space for Nordic walking, running and cycling. You don’t need any special equipment to observe nature; binoculars, a telescope or a magnifying glass may be helpful. This lets you choose how much to focus on exercise and observation, without committing to just one forest activity. Expert guidance is recommended for mushroom picking. Foraged forest products can be eaten fresh or used in cakes and desserts.
Summer events in and around Ocypel
The 2026 summer programme at the Letni Dom Kultury in Ocypel was a series of open-air concerts and artistic events by the lake and in public spaces. The forests and sunset provided the scenic backdrop. Future programmes may change, so if you’d like to plan your trip around an event, check the dates for your chosen year.
“Biegaj w Ocyplu – Leśne Wandry” is a sporting event organised by Stowarzyszenie Przyjaciół Ocypla, which has attracted growing numbers of participants and spectators over the years. The programme includes races for children, teenagers and adults, recreational distances, and courses for more experienced runners. Dates and registration details may change, so check the information for the edition you wish to attend.
The summer festival series “Lato na Kociewiu” takes place in July and August in Lubichowo, Szteklin and Ocypel. The specific dates may vary from year to year. If this festival is important to your travel plans, check the dates for the relevant year.
Architecture and history
The wooden buildings of Ocypel village are among the sights in the area around Lubichowo. Individual buildings may be in varying condition. In Ocypel itself, the Chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary commemorates a predecessor that was destroyed by the Germans in 1943. The present chapel was reconstructed from an old photograph, based on the pre-war model, and was consecrated on 3 May 2004 by Father Alfons Fonfara, parish priest of Matki BoĹĽej KrĂłlowej in Ocypel.
The railway station also preserves an unusual reminder of railway history. In a shady corner of a siding stands a forgotten pre-war German Pullman-type railway carriage. Together with the reconstructed chapel and wooden buildings, it gives you a different impression of the village than a trip focused mainly on outdoor activities in the forest.
Marina and waterside facilities
The marina project included a building for water tourism, a playground, a fire pit and a car park. There is also a pier with designated areas for swimming and for mooring boats, kayaks and pedal boats. If any of these facilities are important to your plans, check their condition on site.
