Rumia: Nature, Views and Culture
Accommodation in Rumia
Rumia offers a range of options for planning your trip: trails along the Zagórska Struga, views from Góra Markowca, and culture and the town’s history. Consider whether nature, a view over the town, historical collections, or a seasonal music event should be the focus of your stay.
Nature and Trails in Rumia
The Dolina Zagórskiej Strugi nature reserve covers areas in Rumia. The town announced its designation in November 2025. The Struga, the trout living in it, and the old beech and oak trees on the slopes are protected. The nature reserve therefore encompasses water, wildlife, and old-growth trees.
A hiking trail leads into the Zagórska Struga Valley. You can walk along the Zagórska Struga from Kamienna Street near Szmelta in the direction of the forest. In the nature reserve, you may only walk on designated paths; take this requirement into account when planning your visit.
Starowiejski Park lies between Starowiejska and Mickiewicza Streets. Its biggest attractions include the pond and the walking and cycling path running along the Zagórska Struga. There is also a walking and cycling route along Żwirki-i-Wigury Street in Rumia. This gives you a choice between the trail into the valley, a walk towards the forest, and the walking and cycling paths in the park or along the street.
Views and Activities on Góra Markowca
Góra Markowca in Rumia has an observation tower, a zip line, a playground, and a climbing wall with routes of varying difficulty. From the observation tower, the view extends across the town from more than 112 metres above sea level. Góra Markowca thus combines views of the town with opportunities for play and climbing. If you are planning an outing, you can decide whether the view or one of the other activities matters more to you.
Town History and Culture
The Muzeum Miasta Rumi is located in the basement rooms of Stacja Kultura. Its exhibits include the skeleton of the “oldest inhabitant of Rumia,” coins from the ruins of a Cistercian church, and documents and photographs about life in the post-war period. Free access to the history room can be arranged by email. The exhibition topics therefore range from archaeological finds to memories of the post-war period.
Rumia is also home to the ruins of a medieval church, surrounded by a historic cemetery. This site complements the museum exhibits with a building and a cemetery, each with its own historical character. So, during a history-focused stay, you can include both collections and historic sites in your plans.
Music Events Throughout the Year
The recurring events calendar in Rumia includes the Międzynarodowy Festiwal Muzyki Religijnej im. ks. St. Ormińskiego, held in October. The Letnie Koncerty Organowe take place in July and August. The two music events therefore fall in different seasons. If you would like to plan your trip around one of them, check the dates for the current edition. In the 2024 edition, one concert took place at the Sanktuarium Najświętszej Maryi Panny Wspomożenia Wiernych in Rumia; this location refers to that concert.
