Explore Skoczów via its hiking trails, the views from Kaplicówka and its rich architectural and cultural history.

Hiking trails and different timeframes

Two hiking trails can be compared by their approximate length and walking time. The green trail runs from Skoczów via Górki Wielkie to Błatnia/Błotny; it is about 15 kilometers long and takes approximately five hours. The yellow trail runs from Skoczów via Lipowiec to Równica, is about 11 kilometers long and takes approximately four hours. The yellow trail is therefore the shorter option, requiring less time; allow about an extra hour for the green trail. Since these figures are approximate, they provide a guide when matching your travel schedule to your chosen hike.

Other routes have different points of reference. The Morcinkowski Trail connects places in Skoczów associated with Gustaw Morcinek. The Greenways route leads to the market square and onward to the Muzeum im. G. Morcinka. The lowland loop of the Greenway Kraków–Morawy–Wiedeń also passes through Skoczów. While the two hiking trails can be compared by their approximate distances and walking times, these other routes focus on places and themes.

Kaplicówka: a hill with views of the town and mountains

Kaplicówka is a low hill at just under 400 meters above sea level. Its treeless slopes offer views of Skoczów and the mountains. The summit can be reached from the center of Skoczów via Jana Pawła II Avenue. This brings two different views together: one of the town and one of the mountains. If you include Kaplicówka in your plans, the avenue mentioned above leads from the center to the summit.

Market square, town hall and architectural history

Skoczów’s market square has retained its medieval layout. The town hall is an integral part of its historic buildings. It was built in 1797; work on the tower was completed in 1801. Regionally, the town hall has significant historical, artistic and scientific value. The two dates refer to different stages of construction: the building of the town hall and the later completion of the tower.

The Church of St. Peter and Paul is also part of the town’s architectural history. It was built in 1762 in the late Baroque style. Together with the medieval layout of the market square and the history of the town hall, it provides another specific point of reference for Skoczów’s architectural history.

Tradition and museum

In Skoczów, a tradition is observed every year during Holy Week: the Judosz is led around on Good Friday and Holy Saturday. The exact calendar dates vary with the Easter calendar. If you would like to plan your trip around this tradition, take the dates for the relevant Easter year into account.

A visit to the Muzeum Parafialne im. Św. Jana Sarkandra can teach you more about the life and cult of Saint John Sarkander. Alongside the historic buildings, an annual tradition and a specific museum focus offer additional themes to explore during your stay.
