You can plan your stay in Pyskowice around three different themes: the historic town centre, railway history or the landscape along the Drama River. If you are looking for a hotel, this distinction can help you decide what to focus on during your visit.

Old Town and historic buildings

The Old Town of Pyskowice retains its medieval layout and includes the historic market square and town hall. Most of the townhouses on the market square are listed in the heritage register. In the historic centre, you will encounter both the traditional town layout and tangible examples of its architectural history.

The section from the main altar to the pulpit survives in the Gothic brick Church of St Nicholas. Here, the focus is on a precisely defined part of the church, while the historic character of the market square comes from its layout and townhouses. The Chapel of St John of Nepomuk stands at the entrance to the city park from the road to Gliwice.

Since 2003, the town hall’s rooms have hosted exhibitions on the history of the city and region. The historical focus therefore extends beyond individual buildings to include the development of Pyskowice and its surroundings.

Railway history across several exhibitions

The permanent exhibition “PYSKOWICE MIASTO” at the Pyskowice Town Hall Exhibition Centre explores the development of the city and railway junction between 1945 and 2005. Archival materials and memorabilia illustrate these subjects. The exhibition reopened in 2025 and can be visited during the Exhibition Centre’s opening hours. Check the current opening hours before your visit.

The permanent exhibitions in the publicly accessible rooms of Stacja Kultury MOKiS Pyskowice offer another perspective. “STACJA PYSKOWICE I” features photographs tracing the abbreviated history of the development of the Pyskowice railway junction. “STACJA PYSKOWICE II” presents exhibits and memorabilia from the Pyskowice locomotive depot, as well as models and a faithful replica of a five-chamber light signal. The signal was saved from disposal during the dismantling of the Drama sand railway station. This exhibition can be visited during opening hours or at special events.

The exhibitions highlight different aspects: the town hall focuses on the development of the city and railway junction from 1945 to 2005, along with archival materials and memorabilia. At Stacja Kultury, photographs, models and the light signal add to the picture. This makes it possible to explore railway history through both its development and its exhibits and technical models.

Drama Valley, city park and other points of interest

Pyskowice lies in the scenic valley of the Drama River. The river feeds the artificial Dzierżno Małe Reservoir, giving the landscape theme a tangible connection to the valley and its waters. The city park was created as a place where people could stroll among the greenery and sit in peace. This places the landscape and the park’s original intended use alongside the city’s historical themes.

Another historic landmark is the restored Pyskowice milepost. It was placed in a square opposite the former Hotel Germania at ul. Powstańców Śląskich 7.

As you plan your trip, you can weigh up the city’s history, the railway exhibitions and the natural setting.
