Kłobuck between Gothic architecture and nature trails
Accommodation in Kłobuck
Five pointed Gothic portals have survived to this day in the Church of St Martin and St Margaret in Kłobuck. The Church of St Martin was built in 1144, funded by Piotr Dunin Włostowic of Skrzynno. Its present appearance combines Gothic design with Baroque elements.
Building history and local culture
The palace in the Kłobuck-Zagórze district also has a distinctive architectural character: it was built between 1795 and 1800 in the Neo-Gothic style. Its floor plan is L-shaped, with a polygonal tower positioned centrally. Kłobuck’s historic urban fabric dates back to the 12th–13th and 14th centuries. Traces from different periods can therefore be distinguished, from the medieval urban fabric and church to the palace built later.
The Miejski Ośrodek Kultury (Municipal Cultural Centre), which has operated continuously since 1972, is part of local cultural life. One local food tradition is mixed Kłobuck bread: in 2010, it was added to the list of traditional products of the Silesian Voivodeship, in the baked goods and confectionery category.
Landscape and nature in the municipality
The landscape of the Kłobuck municipality is shaped in part by the Biała and Czarna Oksza rivers, as well as by moraine hills and limestone uplands. In total, the municipality has eight legally protected areas, including five nature reserves and two ecological sites.
The Dębowa Góra Nature Reserve covers 5.45 hectares and lies on a hill reaching up to 330 metres above sea level. There is also an observation tower in the reserve. Pedunculate oaks and spruces grow there; protected plants and animals include mezereon, periwinkle, lily of the valley, sand lizard, slow worm and common European adder.
Another natural attraction is the Zakrzew Reservoir: this artificial body of water on the Biała Oksza covers ten hectares and is used for recreation in summer. The municipality thus offers two distinct excursion destinations: a protected natural area and a body of water used seasonally.
Cycling routes and trails
Kłobuck’s nature- and forest-focused cycling network comprises two routes, 12.7 and 4.5 kilometres long. The shorter route begins in the Dębowa Góra Nature Reserve and leads to the Zakrzew Reservoir. The 12.7-kilometre route runs from a protected mezereon site in the Pierzchno forest district, through the Zamczysko Nature Reserve, to the reservoir. Their lengths and destinations provide a concrete basis for comparison as you plan.
The Kłobuck–Przystajń cycling route starts in Kłobuck and is an easy, waymarked route. For hiking, the Green Kłobuck Trail runs from Kłobuck through Mokrą and Zawady on the Liswarta to Wąsosz; its starting point is at the Church of St Martin. The Nature Reserves Trail also runs there. The 67.5-kilometre blue trail passes through the Zamczysko and Dębowa Góra reserves and continues beyond Kłobuck.
Another connection is the Szlak Opatówki: it starts at the Zakrzew Reservoir in Kłobuck and ends at the municipal office in Zawady. The routes differ in length, course and destinations. When planning your trip, you can first consider whether you would prefer to focus on the shorter link between the natural area and the reservoir, a longer route, or Kłobuck’s historical points of interest.
Customs and practical information
Customs that have survived in the Kłobuck municipality include drowning the Marzanna effigy, decorating the Gaik on Gaik Sunday, and carol singers visiting homes at Christmas. The municipal harvest festival includes processions and competitions featuring harvest wreaths made from agricultural produce. These traditions complement the area’s architectural history with local customs observed at different times of year.
The OSiR Kłobuck Sports and Recreation Centre has a swimming pool, a sports hall, a football stadium and table tennis facilities. If you are planning a visit, check the current opening hours and access arrangements in advance.
When looking for a hotel in Kłobuck, you can prioritise what you plan to see: buildings in town, cultural attractions, or nature and cycling destinations in the municipality. Then compare the actual location of your accommodation with the places you want to visit.
