Mysłowice combines museums with a range of specialities, historic sites, parkland and opportunities to get out on the water. Several cycling and hiking routes are also described. These places and routes offer different starting points for planning your trip—from the history of the collections to the landscape along the Czarna Przemsza.

Museums and historic sites

The Centralne Muzeum Pożarnictwa has more than 4,000 exhibits. These include historic firefighting equipment, fire engines, horse-drawn and hand-pump fire engines, as well as firefighters’ uniforms and equipment. The collection therefore covers vehicles and firefighting gear, as well as the clothing and equipment of fire service personnel. Anyone interested in the history of the fire service will find a clear thematic focus here.

The Muzeum Miasta Mysłowice presents exhibitions on archaeology, ethnography, 20th-century history, industry and sport. The topics range from early traces of human activity and cultural ways of life to more recent history and industrial development. Sport is also part of the exhibition programme. The city museum thus offers several different historical and social perspectives for exploring Mysłowice.

The Muzeum Miasta Mysłowice organises visits and museum lessons for preschool groups; reservations are requested. One lesson explores the Trójkąt Trzech Cesarzy as a versatile place and an international centre for cross-border traffic at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. This is a dedicated educational programme that complements the exhibitions with a specific historical topic.

In Park Promenada stands the Przewiązka, a listed building dating from 1907. It served as a passageway between an emigrant station and the railway station. Both its age and its former function are therefore important to understanding the building: its history links two places associated with emigration and rail travel.

Parks, water and nature

Promenada stretches along the Czarna Przemsza. Wet meadows and ponds there provide a habitat for waterbirds, including coots, mallards and moorhens. These landscape features give the park a distinctly aquatic and wetland character. When planning a trip with nature and landscapes in mind, you can therefore think of this Promenada differently from a site whose main features are historic building remains or old trees.

Park Zamkowy is a historic landscape park. Its features include protected trees recognised as natural monuments, as well as remains of a former manor estate. Together, these elements give it a different focus from Promenada: here, the history of the park and protected trees meet visible traces of the former manor estate. The descriptions of the two parks help distinguish their different natural and historical features.

Kayaks and pedal boats can be rented and used in Park Słupna. This adds an on-the-water activity to the nature and museum attractions.

Cycling and hiking routes

Different starting points are listed for cycling trips. The “Rowerowe szlaki Mysłowic (Koleją i Rowerem)” cycling route starts at Mysłowice railway station. Trains operated by Koleje Śląskie stop there on the S31 line between Katowice and Oświęcim. As train services can change, it is advisable to check the latest rail information before travelling. Another cycling route starts in Park Słupna, by the Centralne Muzeum Pożarnictwa. The railway station and the park are therefore two distinct, specifically named starting points for cycling routes.

The red “Mariana Kantora-Mirskiego” hiking trail runs from Janina Barbara via Giszowiec, Dolina Murckowska, Wesoła Fala in Wesoła, Morgi and Szyb Stanisława, as well as the “Słupna” outdoor swimming pool, to Mysłowice. This sequence of places describes the route in more detail than simply naming its destination: it lists several stops along the way and ends in Mysłowice. The cycling routes each have a named starting point, while the hiking trail is described by the sequence of stops leading to Mysłowice.
