Żarki-Letnisko lies in an area shaped by pine forests and combines a history as a garden city with distinctive buildings and leisure facilities. When planning a stay, you’ll encounter a range of themes: 1930s wooden architecture, the swimming pool on the Czarka, an astronomical observatory, and two routes that pass through the town. Depending on whether you’re interested in local history, nature, or getting active, you’ll find different things to explore.

Garden City and Architectural History

Żarki-Letnisko was founded as a garden city in the 1930s by Karol and Stefania Raczyński. The wooden villas in the Witkiewicz style were built as part of this development. The town’s history is therefore reflected in a distinctive architectural form.

Another example of a distinct style is the parish church of Matki Bożej Nieustającej Pomocy. Built in 1936 in the Tyrolean style, it is described by local residents as Alpine. The wooden Nałęcz Villa, in turn, served as an entertainment and cultural center in the years before World War II.

In the park, a plaque at the pre-war garden pavilion commemorates Stefania and Karol Raczyński as the founders of Żarki-Letnisko. The villas, church, and Nałęcz Villa represent different aspects of the town’s history; the plaque in the park connects it to its founders.

Pine Forest and Observatory

The Astronomical Observatory consists of a six-meter-high rotunda, hidden in the surrounding forest, and is used to observe the sun. The building is not open to visitors. If you’re interested in astronomy, keep this distinction in mind when planning: the observatory is one of the town’s distinctive features, but it is not a visitor attraction.

Swimming Pool on the Czarka

The swimming pool on the Czarka has separate swimming areas for adults and children. The facility also has changing rooms, toilets, showers, and a beach volleyball court. Seasonal availability may vary. If the swimming pool is important to your stay, check its availability in advance.

Comparing Two Routes

Two named routes pass through Żarki Letnisko. The green loop around the Poraj Reservoir, “SZLAK ZIELONY – OKRĘŻNY WOKÓŁ ZALEWU PORAJSKIEGO,” is 43.4 kilometers long. The yellow Żarecki Trail, “SZLAK ŻÓŁTY – ŻARECKI,” also passes through Żarki Letnisko and is 29 kilometers long. This makes the marked loop route 14.4 kilometers longer. The route lengths give you a concrete basis for comparing the two routes in terms of distance.

Summer Concerts in the Park

A local association organizes summer concerts in the park pavilion in Żarki-Letnisko. The program is seasonal and may vary. If you’re planning your trip around a concert, check the dates in advance.
