Discover Miasteczko Śląskie
Accommodation in Miasteczko Śląskie
Miasteczko Śląskie can be explored through several specific themes: protected landscapes, named trails, wooden architecture and railway history. If you are looking for a hotel, you can consider which of these themes you want to shape your trip. The individual places and stories offer different starting points for doing so.
Landscape, Trails and Geological History
The “Pasieki” nature and landscape reserve covers 32 hectares. The “Miasteczko Śląskie – Wielkie Historie w Małym Mieście” educational trail is a named route leading there. It follows the Leśna Rajza from a starting point at a car park near a petrol station and the Zajazd u Moniki to Pasieki. The educational trail features ten information boards and can be explored on foot or by bicycle.
Another route description leads from the reservoir to the flooded “Bibiela” mine: a ten-kilometre trail to this destination starts there. The route is thus described by a specific starting point, a named destination and its length.
A geological find is also among the local points of interest. The remains of a marine, fish-eating nothosaur up to two metres long, dating from 240 million years ago, were found in the limestone quarry at Żyglin. The find points to a landscape history far older than the town’s buildings and transport routes.
There is a salt graduation tower in Rubina Park. A municipal notice dated 7 October 2023 gives its daily opening hours as 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. If these hours are important for your visit, check them in advance.
Wooden Architecture and the Townscape
The wooden Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St George was built in 1666–1667 and is located on the Silesian Wooden Architecture Trail. It is constructed using log construction, has a shingle roof and is surrounded by soboty (covered walkways). The church and bell tower should be considered separately when dating the buildings: the tower was built in 1716–1717. This allows both specific construction features and two different building periods to be noted.
A 19th-century town hall stands in the centre of Miasteczko Śląskie. The heart of the town also features a distinctive arrangement of older buildings. The brick building known as the Stara Szkoła (Old School) shapes the townscape. The town hall, older buildings and Stara Szkoła offer different points of reference for exploring the townscape; the church adds its distinctive wooden construction and building history to this perspective.
Narrow-Gauge Railway: Historical and Tourist Perspectives
One historical milestone is the year 1892, when the narrow-gauge railway was extended from Bytom to Miasteczko Śląskie. The Górnośląskie Koleje Wąskotorowe has operated as a tourist narrow-gauge railway since 2002. It offers a tourist connection to Zalew Nakło-Chechło and the Historic Silver Mine in Tarnowskie Góry. Alongside the history of the railway line, this makes tourist connections to two regional destinations another aspect to consider when travelling.
When planning your trip, you can weigh the town’s themes according to your interests: trails and landscape, architectural history or the narrow-gauge railway. This makes looking for a hotel in Miasteczko Śląskie part of a travel decision guided first by the theme you want to focus on.
