Międzybrodzie Bialskie: Lake, Church and Hiking Trails
Accommodation in Międzybrodzie Bialskie
Międzybrodzie Bialskie lies on the northern shore of the Soła. Several distinct themes come together to help you plan your trip: Lake Międzybrodzkie, hiking destinations in the Beskid Mały, a church with Renaissance and Baroque paintings, and the annual Święto Morza festival. The river, lake, stream valleys and mountain slopes are important landscape features. The specific routes and timings also help you distinguish between different hiking destinations.
Lake, River and Mountain Landscape
Lake Międzybrodzkie is an artificial lake on the Soła River. It covers an area of 3.8 km² and is about 5 km long. Along its shores, the slopes of mountain massifs in the Beskid Mały descend towards the water. Międzybrodzie Bialskie also lies in the valleys of the Ponikiew, Duża Żarnówka and Mała Żarnówka streams, as well as on the slopes of Rogacz, Magurka and Hrobacza Łąka. Thus, the area is defined not only by the lakeshore but also by stream valleys and mountain slopes. In addition to its original function, the lake also serves a recreational purpose.
Church and Art History
Międzybrodzie Bialskie is home to a brick church dating from 1863. It houses valuable Renaissance and Baroque paintings. The construction date and the paintings provide different points of reference in time: the building dates from the 19th century, while the artworks belong to the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Anyone interested in architectural and art history will find a distinct cultural attraction here, alongside the area's landscape and hiking themes.
Hiking Destinations and Different Journey Times
The yellow trail starts in the centre of Międzybrodzie Bialskie and leads via Międzybrodzie Ponikiew to Magurka, at 909 m, and the PTTK mountain hut. The ascent takes 2 hours and 30 minutes. This time refers to this ascent and should not be confused with the duration of a different route section.
A marked trail also leads from Międzybrodzie Bialskie to Czupel (933 m), the highest peak in the Beskid Mały. The Czernichów–Czupel–Magurka–Międzybrodzie Bialskie hiking route is listed as 15 km long. The hike passes through a smaller, more frequently visited part of the Beskid Mały Landscape Park. The area around Lake Międzybrodzkie is also a starting point for interesting trails to the surrounding peaks of the Beskid Mały.
The passage from Czupel to Magurka Wilkowicka, which takes just over half an hour, refers only to this section, not to the entire route from Międzybrodzie Bialskie. This distinction is important for planning your trip: the time of 2 hours and 30 minutes refers to the ascent to Magurka, while the shorter time applies only to the section leading to Magurka Wilkowicka. The two destinations and journey times should therefore be considered separately.
Święto Morza and Paddling Equipment
Święto Morza takes place annually in Międzybrodzie Bialskie in June or July. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the date for the relevant year. This will allow you to plan your stay around the specific festival date.
