Żabnica brings together trails, sacred architecture and local history. An educational trail, hiking trails from higher-altitude hamlets and various historical landmarks offer different starting points for planning your trip. Consider whether you would rather focus on mountain destinations or on architectural and local history.

Trails and Mountain Destinations

The Żabnica–Cięcina educational trail is 2.2 km long and follows a section of the black cycle route. From the higher-altitude hamlets of Skałka, Tworzówka and Kamienna, hiking trails lead to nearby mountain meadows and pastures, peaks and neighbouring mountain huts. Two different points of reference may help you choose: the length of the educational trail or the destinations reached by trails from the hamlets. If you plan to take the educational trail, check its current condition before your visit.

Wooden Church and Chapel

The wooden Church of Our Lady of Częstochowa in Żabnica was built between 1910 and 1914. It is built using log construction, has the ground plan of a Latin cross and stands on a stone base. Log construction is a method of building with wooden logs stacked on top of one another; a Latin-cross ground plan describes the shape of the building when viewed from above. These three features draw attention to different aspects of the building: its construction, its ground plan and its base.

A wooden chapel stands in Żabnica-Skałka, along the black route towards Hala Boracza. Its patrons are Our Lady of Perpetual Help and St. Brother Albert. The church stands out for its architectural style and date of construction, while the chapel is notable for its connection to the route and its religious dedication. Those interested in sacred wooden architecture will find different points of interest in the two buildings.

Religious Traditions and Music

A tradition of praying the Stations of the Cross began in 2005; the prayers were held on the parish’s streets. The so-called Góralska Pasterka began in 2006 at the initiative of local musicians in Żabnica. At the event, around 40 musicians with various instruments gathered at the altar on Christmas night. The two traditions have different focuses: the Stations of the Cross prayers include a route through the parish streets, while the Góralska Pasterka centres on music and Christmas night.

Historical Sites and Practical Information

The “Wąwóz” combat bunker is located in Żabnica and is one of the many fortifications from the Second World War in this area. Alongside the religious buildings, it offers a different historical focus: the military history of the Second World War.

“ŻABNICA-WIATA” towards Płone is designated as a rest area. If you plan to stop here for a break, check the current conditions on site.
