When choosing a stay in Żywiec, you can focus on different things: the city’s history, industrial heritage, trails and water sports, or a visit with animals. The Town Museum is housed in a historic building; the Muzeum Browaru Żywiec adds industrial history, renovated exhibitions and interactive features to the cultural offering. For time outdoors, you can choose hiking trails and urban walking routes, as well as water sports on Jezioro Żywieckie, to the north. The places and activities below will help you distinguish between these themes and tailor your stay to your interests.

Museums and Historic Buildings

Zamek Komorowskich, also known as Stary Zamek, is the oldest non-religious masonry building in Żywiec. Since January 2005, it has housed the Town Museum. The museum is open to visitors Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is closed on Mondays. A visit to the museum thus combines a historic building with a direct insight into the city.

The Muzeum Browaru Żywiec is part of the Silesian Route of Industrial Monuments and has been an anchor point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage since 2010. Following extensive revitalization, it reopened with renovated exhibitions, new themed areas and interactive features. After the tour, guests have time to drink beer. The museum offers a distinct focus alongside the Town Museum: industrial heritage and newly revamped themed exhibitions take center stage here.

The tower of the co-cathedral in Żywiec was built in 1582–1583 and completed in 1585. The construction period and completion date are two specific historical reference points. Those interested in architectural history can consider the precisely dated tower alongside Stary Zamek, recognized as the oldest non-religious masonry building.

Parks, Trails and Water Sports

The origins of Park Żywiecki probably date back to the first half of the 16th century. There are 52 trees in Park Zamkowy that have been designated natural monuments. This brings a probably long-standing park history and specifically protected trees into view as distinct points of connection with nature and history. For exercise, there are scenic hiking trails and urban walking routes that pass through attractive parts of the city. When choosing, you can therefore distinguish between a hike and a walk in the urban area. Jezioro Żywieckie, located north of Żywiec, also invites visitors to enjoy water sports, adding an on-the-water activity to the options available on land.

Animals and Horse Riding

The Mini Zoo at Stajnia Miejska in Żywiec is home to domestic and wild animals. Visitors can ride in the outdoor arena; check before traveling whether this activity is currently available. Here, you can choose between two different activities: seeing the animals at the Mini Zoo or using the arena for horse riding. When planning your stay, you can weigh up culture, time outdoors, a visit with animals or a horse-riding activity.
