Odrzykoń: Wayside Chapels and Landscape
Accommodation in Odrzykoń
Odrzykoń lies on the boundary between the Doły Jasielsko-Sanockie and the Pogórze Dynowskie. The Królewska and Sucha Góra mountain massifs shape the surrounding area. A hands-on way to explore the town’s history is the “Śladami krzyży i kapliczek w Odrzykoniu” (Following the Crosses and Chapels of Odrzykoń) walking and cycling trail.
A Trail of Crosses and Chapels
The trail was established in 2008 on the initiative of the Stowarzyszenie Odrzykoniaków to introduce residents and visitors to the history of the roadside crosses and chapels. The theme connects the route with the places where these crosses and chapels stand. Information boards at the chapels tell their story. Local heritage is therefore an explicit part of the trail’s character—not just walking or cycling along it.
Two Options of Different Lengths
The shorter, blue option is marked as having 11 roadside chapels. The longer, yellow option is about 17 kilometres long and passes 22 roadside chapels. It also includes chapels in outlying parts of the village, in the Czarnorzecko-Strzyżowski Park Krajobrazowy, and in Podbratkówka. The information points to a practical difference: the blue option is described as shorter, while the yellow one has an approximate length and more stops. When deciding, you can therefore consider both the number of roadside chapels and the length of the yellow route. Check local conditions before setting out, especially if you are planning the longer option. The yellow option passes eleven more chapels.
Starting Point and Directions
Both options start at the Muzeum Wsi in Odrzykoń. An information board there provides a trail map with descriptions of the chapels, linking the starting point with the information available along the trail. Further information boards at the chapels themselves tell their story. If you would like to get your bearings in advance, you can find a map at the shared starting point and historical explanations at the chapels.
The nearest PKS bus stop is at the Dom Kultury in Odrzykoń, 50 metres from the trail entrance. If you plan to use this stop to get there, please check the current timetable in advance.
Landscape and Surroundings
Its location on the boundary between two landscape regions and the mountain massifs that define it give Odrzykoń a distinct geographical setting. The chapel trail also reflects different areas: the yellow option includes stops in outlying parts of the village, as well as in the Czarnorzecko-Strzyżowski Park Krajobrazowy and Podbratkówka. Zamek Kamieniec, near the Prządki Nature Reserve, is also in the vicinity of the destination. The local history of the roadside crosses and chapels and the wider landscape around Odrzykoń thus offer different perspectives on the destination.
