Sarnów – Local History and Cycling Route
Accommodation in Sarnów
Sarnów combines rural scenery, local history and a designated cycling route. The village is among the places with scenic qualities for tourism because it lies between large forest areas. The villages of the Tuszów Narodowy municipality are also set among fields, woodlands and forests; streams run through the landscape, and good roads connect the villages. When looking for hotels in Sarnów, this presents a practical choice: should local history be the main focus of your stay, or would you prefer to make the cycling route your priority?
Wooden Church and Local History
A key landmark is the Roman Catholic Sacred Heart of Jesus parish church. It was built in 1833 as a Protestant church for German and Austrian colonists. The wooden building is constructed using a log-cabin technique and has a single nave with a narrower chancel, the area around the altar. The church’s layout makes its architectural form easy to discern.
The furnishings also bring together different periods. The image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the main altar is traditionally dated to the 17th century; fragments of Baroque woodcarving on this altar date from the second half of the century. The two side altars are considered works of folk art from the second half of the 20th century. A baptismal font completes the furnishings and is attributed to the 18th century. The church is listed in the regional register of historic monuments.
The history of the colonists extends beyond the church. The former Evangelical cemetery preserves the graves of the colonists who founded Reichscheim, now Sarnów. The village is considered a former German colony; surviving 19th-century buildings are also part of its character. Another historical trace is the former Evangelical school: it dates from 1888 and is now the rectory. Like the church, the school is also listed in the regional register of historic monuments. The dates of the church and school thus mark two building periods in the 19th century.
Cycling Route and Rural Surroundings
Sarnów is a highlighted stop on the Gen. Władysław Eugeniusz Sikorski cycling route through the Tuszów Narodowy municipality. The Evangelical cemetery is also included on the route. The route is suitable for families with children as well as experienced cyclists. The route also features agritourism farms, forests and educational trails in the Mielec Forest District.
For a break, there is a useful landmark on the bank of the Babulówka: a rest shelter next to the volunteer fire brigade station. A historic fire pump also stands beside the shelter. If you are weighing up whether to focus more on local history or cycling when planning your trip, these different priorities can help structure your search for suitable accommodation in Sarnów.
For orientation in the wider municipality: the Mielec–Tarnobrzeg–Nagnajów regional road and the Dębica–Mielec–Rozwadów railway line run through the Tuszów Narodowy municipality. Both transport routes place the municipality within the regional transport network.
