Bukowsko combines a clearly defined historical background with nature themes and trails of different kinds. When planning your trip, it is therefore helpful to look at both the village itself and the distinction between trails within the village and routes across the municipality.

History and the Village

From 1748 to 1946, Bukowsko was a town and belonged, among others, to the Ossoliński family. There is a Jewish cemetery in the village. Murals can be seen mainly at bus stops and also in the village centre. One mural is on the wall of the Dom Kultury in Bukowsko. The dates establish the timeframe of its former town status, while the cemetery and murals identify places in the village’s present-day landscape.

Landscape and Nature in the Centre

Bukowsko lies in a broad hollow at the foot of the Bukowica range; the Bukowiec and Sanoczek streams are in the San river basin. The hollow and the foot of the range describe the terrain, while the river basin places the streams hydrologically within the San system. This helps distinguish the landform from the watercourses’ connection to a river system.

In the centre of Bukowsko, there is a place where you can learn about the flora and fauna of the Carpathians; it was established in 2021. Educational boards about the natural diversity of the Foothills are placed along the walkway around the square. The content focuses on two different areas: the learning site draws attention to the Carpathians, while the boards cover the diversity of the Foothills.

Trails with Different Themes

The yellow-and-red-marked “Szlakiem historycznych osad” trail is 15 kilometres long. It starts at the Caritas retreat centre in Zboiska and ends in Bukowsko. You can also start in Bukowsko and complete it in stages. Before setting out, check current trail conditions with local sources.

The “Śladami trzech narodów – Polacy, Rusini i Żydzi w Gminie Bukowsko” educational trail leads from Bukowsko to Kamienne. Its name refers to Poles, Ruthenians and Jews in the context of the Bukowsko municipality; Kamienne is a historical settlement that no longer exists. The educational trail thus connects a theme named in its title with a historic destination.

The “Buczyna Karpacka” route also leads to Bukowica within the municipality. It can be accessed from Wola Piotrowa; you can use the trail for hiking and cycling. Unlike the two trails that start or end in Bukowsko, this option is in the wider municipality.

The trails differ in length and format, destination and activity: the length, markings and option to complete the yellow-and-red-marked trail in stages are specified; the educational trail leads to historic Kamienne; and “Buczyna Karpacka” can be used for hiking and cycling. The starting and access points also vary: Zboiska or Bukowsko for the first trail, Bukowsko for the educational trail, and Wola Piotrowa for “Buczyna Karpacka”.
