Brzeżanka: Ridges, Trails and Views
Accommodation in Brzeżanka
Brzeżanka lies about 3 km from Strzyżów, away from the main transport routes. The landscape is highly varied: the deeply cut valley of the Brzeżanka stream and its tributaries shape the area.
Ridges, Valleys and Views
From the hamlet of Podlas, the view stretches across the Strzyżów-Dynów Foothills: west to Góra Chełm at 528 m, and east to Kopalina at 464 m, also called Góra Niebylecka. There is also a view over the Wisłok Valley between Cieszyna and Nowa Wieś. Another viewpoint is offered by spots on the open border ridge along the boundary with Wysoka Strzyżowska, above the hamlet of Graniczna. From there, the view looks down onto the Kopytko Valley.
The observation tower at the campsite also offers a distinct view. From it, despite the taller trees, you can see across the Stobnica Valley and the village of Godowa. Rzeszów is also visible above the Góra Niebylecka massif. The different views give a clear impression of the varied landscape: Podlas opens up views across the foothills and the Wisłok Valley, while the observation tower brings the Stobnica Valley and Rzeszów into focus.
Cycling Loop and Hiking Trails
The cycling route shown on the “Tras rowerowych zielonych okolic Strzyżowa” map passes through Brzeżanka and follows a loop from Strzyżów through Brzeżanka, Bonarówka, Żyznów and Godowa, returning to Strzyżów. The loop is the key point: both the start and finish are in Strzyżów, and Brzeżanka is one of the places along the route.
The hiking trails follow different routes. The black hiking trail leads from Czudec via Babica, Połomia and Godowa to the ridge of Brzeżanka, where it meets the green hiking trail. A PTTK trail marked in green leads from Strzyżów to Krosno and passes through a point in Brzeżanka. You can distinguish the trails by their respective descriptions: the cycling route forms a loop, the black hiking trail leads to the ridge, and the green-marked PTTK trail connects Strzyżów and Krosno.
Campsite and Cultural Heritage
The campsite in Brzeżanka is considered a tourist attraction in spring and autumn. It includes a small wooden structure, an observation tower and an information board about the flora and fauna of the local forests. Another developed tourist viewpoint in Brzeżanka has been a popular spot for mushroom pickers for several years. These landscape features are distinct aspects of the area, alongside the cycling and hiking routes described above.
Brzeżanka’s cultural heritage includes roadside crosses and shrines. Local tradition also tells of volunteers who gathered in a forest beneath a beech tree to take part in national uprisings. The beech was therefore called “werbowanym.” This story has been handed down as local tradition and gives the beech a place in the area’s stories.
Regional Context
In the wider Strzyżów travel area, the Czarnorzecko-Strzyżowski Landscape Park is a protected area with diverse flora and fauna. More than 900 species of vascular plants are reported for the area. This regional context complements Brzeżanka’s specific landscape features without conflating the area’s viewpoints, valleys and trails with the larger protected area.
