Zalewo on Lake Ewingi
Accommodation in Zalewo
Zalewo lies on Lake Ewingi and combines a strong connection to the water with historic buildings. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, you can consider whether you would like to focus your trip more on the lake and boating or on the history of the buildings and the town. These focal points offer two different perspectives from which to discover the town’s character.
Waterways and activities
The Dobrzycki Canal connects Lake Jeziorak to Lake Ewingi and Zalewo by boat. The canal is therefore a navigable link between the lakes that also leads to Zalewo. The route will appeal to travelers who would like to add a trip between these named bodies of water to their stay on Lake Ewingi. If a boat trip is part of your stay, check the latest navigation advisories beforehand.
Lake Ewingi is suitable for sailing and winter sports. These are distinct activity options: sailing focuses on water sports, while winter sports offer a different seasonal form of recreation. Your travel dates and the actual conditions are therefore important when planning; check both for the activity you would like to focus on. This helps you consider the lake in light of your planned stay, rather than treating both options as interchangeable.
The eco-marina on Lake Ewingi
A modern eco-marina is located on Lake Ewingi in Zalewo and serves as a base for sailors. This makes it a specific point of reference if sailing is your focus. In summer 2025, the eco-marina was also an active center for water sports, sailing instruction and family recreation; it was operated by Stowarzyszenie Sportów Wodnych w Iławie. If you would like to plan for one of these activities in particular, check availability in advance.
Historic buildings in Zalewo
The town’s history spans different periods: Zalewo received its town charter in 1305, the Gothic Church of St. John the Evangelist dates from 1351, and it has organs from the 18th century. The term “Gothic” identifies the architectural style; the year 1351 dates the church, while the organs are from a much later century. Visitors interested in architecture can thus distinguish the church’s construction from its later musical furnishings.
Another place to explore local history is the preserved defensive tower in Zalewo, which stands west of a church. The preserved tower next to the church houses an exhibition by Stowarzyszenie Dziedzictwa Kulturowego Izba Pamięci w Zalewie. The defensive tower thus brings together a preserved historic structure and an exhibition in the same building. If you would like to visit the exhibition, check visiting arrangements before your trip.
When planning your visit, bear in mind that sailing and winter sports are activities available on Lake Ewingi, but the eco-marina’s active offerings specifically refer to summer 2025. If you are planning your stay around an activity at the marina, check its availability for your travel dates.
