Malszewo on Lake Małszewskie
Accommodation in Malszewo
Malszewo lies on the shore of Lake Małszewskie. The village combines a specific lakeside location with a historic building heritage: its defining features include an inn with a tavern, a watermill, and several protected houses. There are also two cycling routes with different lengths and routes. If you are looking for a hotel in Malszewo, these local points of reference help you understand the destination in terms of local history, landscape, and cycling.
Lakeside location and municipality
The municipality of Jedwabno counts Lake Małszewskie among the attractive and interesting lakes in its area. At the same time, the precise location matters for orientation: Malszewo is directly on the shore. Here, a clear connection to the village meets the broader perspective of the municipality’s lake landscape.
Historic buildings in the village
The historic village landscape includes an inn with a tavern dating from the 18th or 19th century. The wooden tavern consists of two adjoining buildings: a tavern building and a stable. Its date is given alternatively as 1813 or the late 18th century. As of the heritage register dated September 30, 2023, the inn is listed. The watermill in Malszewo also has a historic designation: it dates from the second half of the 19th century and stands beside a stream.
The residential houses add to this building heritage. The protected houses include numbers 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, and 9. Several wooden houses also stand in the village, including houses Nos. 7 and 8. Those interested in local architectural history will find different examples here: a two-part inn, a watermill, and residential houses whose street numbers are part of the recorded description of the village.
Zamkowa Góra and the legend
Near Malszewo, Zamkowa Góra lies along the forest road to Dłużek. The hill is also known as Schlossberg, Duża Góra, or Zaklęta Góra, and was the site of a Prussian hillfort. There is also a legend: according to local lore, during a siege, a castle and the lord’s daughter sank into the ground. Thus, a historic hillfort and a story explicitly presented as local lore are associated with the same place.
Cycling routes and distances
An 11 km red-marked cycling route runs from Jedwabno via Lipniki, Malszewo, and Burdąg and back to Jedwabno. It passes through Malszewo and is considered somewhat challenging because of its length and varied surfaces. The distance and changing terrain provide two specific points to consider when planning this loop: the overall length of the ride and the condition of the route.
Another red cycling route runs from Olsztyn via Szczęsne, Klewki, Kaborno, Nowa Wieś, Kopanki, and Łajs to Malszewo. It is 25.5 km long, making it 14.5 km longer than the loop from Jedwabno. It also ends in Malszewo instead of returning to its starting point. The two routes therefore differ both in distance and in their course. Check the route markings locally for the 25.5 km route.
A picnic at the village beach
On August 27, 2024, a picnic was held at the village beach in Malszewo. Activities at the event included ball games, badminton, walks, water games, and exercises on an outdoor fitness course. This dated example brought together play, exercise, and walks at a single community event.
