Piasutno can be explored through several distinct highlights: Lake Piasutno, recreational fishing, events and traces of Masurian history. When planning your trip, consider which topic interests you most. For fishing, the applicable permits matter; if you plan to attend a tournament, check the confirmed dates. Check both separately before your trip.

Lake Piasutno in numbers

Lake Piasutno covers 51.74 hectares. Its area, average depth and maximum depth describe different measurements of the lake and together give a more precise picture than a single size figure.

Recreational fishing and permits

The lake has been open to recreational fishing since January 1, 2025. Annual and short-term permits are available, among other places, in Szczytno and Olsztyn, as well as through the wedkarz.pzw.pl app. Information about the permits was published in December 2024, so check the current conditions and where to obtain them before your trip. The opening date and how to obtain a permit answer two different planning questions: when recreational fishing became possible and where to get the appropriate permit. If fishing is part of your travel plans, follow the latest permit information.

Tournaments and travel dates

On July 18, 2026, the 20th Open Beach Volleyball Championships of Szczycieński County took place on the shore of Lake Piasutno. Twelve women's, men's and mixed teams competed using the Brazilian system of play. The tournament has been held for many years and is jointly organized by the Gminny Ośrodek Kultury in Świętajno and the Ochotnicza Straż Pożarna in Piasutno. This date is for the 2026 edition; its long tradition does not indicate when a future tournament will be held. Check a current announcement if you want the tournament to coincide with your travel dates.

Another type of event is the nationwide Scrabble tournament “Scrabble nad jeziorem.” It is held regularly in Piasutno and was described as a recurring event in a municipal account from 2019. Check the latest dates for your specific travel period. The two events offer different ways to plan your visit: beach volleyball focuses on team sports, while Scrabble is a tournament in the word game of the same name.

Jerzy Lanc and Masurian architectural heritage

The Polish school in Piasutno opened in 1931 and was the only Polish school in Masuria at the time. Jerzy Lanc was its first and only teacher. The “Lanca” cycle path leads in the center of Piasutno to a building where Lanc taught. This connects the school’s history to a specific place in the village. The year, the school’s unique status and the teacher’s career each tell a different part of the local story.

Piasutno’s traditional Masurian houses offer another connection to the area’s architectural heritage. Together with the school’s history, they provide two distinct cultural and historical points of interest: the story of an educational institution and a teacher, and the traditional houses. If you want to explore Piasutno beyond its lake and events, these subjects offer a glimpse of the village’s history and built heritage.
