Drawno: History and Trails by Adamowo
Accommodation in Drawno
Drawno combines traces of the past with opportunities for hiking and canoeing. The town lake is also called Adamowo. These offer different starting points for planning your trip: you can focus on the town’s history or set aside time for activities on foot and on the water. If you’re looking for a hotel in Drawno, first consider what you want your trip to focus on. This way, you can plan your days around local history and outdoor activities as separate themes.
Historical traces in Drawno
Around the 10th century, Drawno’s original inhabitants built a fortified settlement on Zamkowy Hill. The town’s attractions include artesian wells dating from the 17th and 19th centuries. The ruins of Wedel Castle are also among Drawno’s historic remains. The Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help is one of the town’s historic buildings. The dates offer a point of comparison: the fortified settlement is much older than the wells. The fortified settlement on Zamkowy Hill should be distinguished from the ruins of Wedel Castle.
Another historical highlight is on Choszczeńska Street. There you’ll find the buildings of the former “Etruria” terracotta factory. They are the remains of the former factory, where garden gnomes were manufactured on an industrial scale. Unlike the fortified settlement and the church, the focus here is on past production. The manufacture of garden gnomes gives this part of the town’s history its own distinct industrial focus.
Hiking around Adamowo
The yellow P10 hiking trail forms an 8.2-kilometre loop around Drawno’s town lake, Adamowo. Another hiking trail starts at the trail junction by the market square and follows ul. Pomorska towards Święciechów along the yellow P10. The P10 is therefore both a loop around the lake and part of a trail that starts at the market square. When choosing a route, you can compare the first route’s specified length and loop shape with the second route’s starting point and direction. Check current trail conditions before setting out.
Canoeing and water sports
The 8.7-kilometre canoeing stretch from Drawno to the “Barnimie” camping area is classified as difficult. River conditions can vary; take this into account when planning and check the current launch conditions on site. The Drawieński National Park landing and the PTTK water station are considered suitable launch points for a canoe trip from Drawno. The water station is near the road bridge over the channel between Lakes Grażyna and Dubie. Drawno has water sports equipment rental locations; check current availability before making plans. The 8.2- and 8.7-kilometre route lengths are close, but the trips differ in form and rating: the P10 is a loop, while the canoeing stretch is classified as difficult and river conditions can vary.
