Broczyno: Architectural History and Cycling Route
Accommodation in Broczyno
Broczyno can be explored through several distinct themes: historic buildings, the park by the palace, and a cycling route that passes through the village. The dates span from a bell dating to 1595 to the rotunda from the early 1980s. If you are planning a stay, you can combine local history and architecture with a specific cycling route option.
Architectural History and Green Space
The rotunda in the centre of Broczyno was built in the early 1980s to a design by J. Kirszak. A bell tower stands right next to it, with a bell dating to 1595. The bell comes from the former half-timbered church, bringing a much older historical reference to this place. A rotunda is a circular building; here, the structure and the bell point to different eras.
The historic palace lies by Lake Broczyno, about 100 metres from the Czaplinek–Wałcz road. It was built in the second half of the 19th century in various architectural styles. On its lakeside, it has an octagonal, two-storey brick tower with a cupola. The description links the palace’s date to a specifically identified architectural feature.
A historic park lies by the palace. It was laid out in the English style in the first half of the 19th century and covers 2.3 hectares. The park’s design and the palace’s construction therefore fall in different periods of the same century. The style and area answer different questions: the former describes the design approach, while the latter indicates the size of the grounds. The park adds a landscape perspective to the architectural history.
At the edge of the village stands a manor house built between 1925 and 1928 in the modernist style. It now houses a primary school. Its construction dates from later than the palace, and its style is more specifically defined: modernist rather than various architectural styles. This makes it possible to distinguish the two buildings by period and design.
Cycling Route and Lake
The black “Lobeliowe Jeziora” cycling route passes through Broczyno. The 33.3-kilometre circular route starts and ends in Czaplinek; Broczyno lies at kilometre 24.5. This places the village in the final third of the route. The total distance describes the entire loop, while the kilometre marker indicates Broczyno’s position along it.
A municipal plan from September 2022 identified a site by Lake Broczyno as suitable for development as a bathing area; at the time, there was a floating jetty and a playground there. If you are including the lake in your plans, check the current condition of the site in advance.
If you are looking for a hotel in Broczyno, your reason for travelling can help shape your plans: will local history or incorporating the cycling loop be your main focus?
