Greifenhagen between the Oder riverbank and culture
Accommodation in Greifenhagen
Greifenhagen (Gryfino) combines a historic town layout with the bank of the Eastern Oder. On the right bank of the Eastern Oder, Gryfino’s riverbank serves passenger ships and water tourism. It is also connected to the Zachodniopomorski Szlak Żeglarski network. This network links tourist ports and marinas in Western Pomerania along the Oder, the Szczecin Lagoon and the Baltic coast with German waters. The riverbank therefore brings together specific local uses and a connection to a supraregional water sports network.
Town history and culture
Gryfino’s historic town layout still clearly reveals the town’s 13th-century founding. This means that, alongside individual venues, you can also appreciate the town’s structure as part of its local history. The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary regularly hosts choral concerts and the Gryfińskie organ music concerts. Kino Gryf is one of Poland’s smallest cinemas and the only cinema in Gryfino County; it screens film premieres and 3D showings. The church and cinema offer different cultural highlights: recurring choral and organ music at the former, and premieres and 3D showings at the latter.
Riverbank and water sports
A cycling path runs along the entire riverside promenade; there is also a free public toilet there. At the Oder beach on ul. Sportowa, you can rent water sports equipment, including single kayaks, tandem kayaks with room for a child, and SUP boards. There is also an unsupervised bathing area on the Eastern Oder in Gryfino, where swimming is prohibited. This makes it easy to distinguish the specific options by the water: cycling along the promenade, water sports equipment at the Oder beach, and a bathing area where swimming is not allowed.
Cycling routes and getting there
There are two different points of reference for bike tours. One cycling route runs from Jana-Pawła-II Street in Gryfino through Wełtyń to Gardno. The section of the 257-kilometre Blue Velo route associated with Gryfino is about 46 kilometres long. It runs mainly along former railway embankments, as well as forest tracks and public roads with light traffic. The route through Wełtyń can be understood in terms of its starting point and destination; for the Blue Velo section, its approximate length and the different types of route are also relevant. This lets you compare the direction and destination of the first route with the length and character of the Blue Velo section.
PKS Szczecin operates services from the bus station in Gryfino to Szczecin and to all localities in Gryfino municipality. Gryfino can be reached from Szczecin via National Road 31. The bus services therefore connect both to Szczecin and to localities within the municipality; the road connection via National Road 31 refers to the route from Szczecin. You can take these different points of reference into account when planning your journey.
