Zastań can be understood through specific connections to nature and history: the protected English oak “Zastańczyk,” wetlands and reed beds along the Dziwna, and archaeological and geological traces. These topics can help guide your choice of hotel if you are considering which aspects of the place and its wider surroundings matter to you for your trip.

Nature and landscape

The English oak “Zastańczyk” stands in Zastań and is protected as a natural monument for its natural, scientific and scenic value. A municipal resolution dated 16 July 2014 documents its protection. Its trunk circumference is 522 centimetres, measured at a height of 1.3 metres. This places a single, named natural monument alongside the broader landscape features. The trunk circumference is the distance all the way around the trunk, not its diameter; the measurement height indicates the distance of the measuring point from the ground.

The planning area in Zastań lies within the Natura 2000 sites “Zalew Kamieński i Dziwna” (PLB320011) and “Ujście Odry i Zalew Szczeciński” (PLH320018). The Dziwna and adjacent wetlands and reed beds lie east of the planning area. This offers several different scales to consider: the individual protected tree, the designated protected areas, and the water-shaped landscape with its wetlands.

Archaeological and geological connections

The protected archaeological site “Zastań, st. 2” is located in Zastań, in AZP area 18-07/6. The history of oil is linked to a different time and place: oil deposits were discovered in the formations of the Main Dolomite near Kamień Pomorski in 1972. The year refers to the discovery of the deposits, not to the production centre in Zastań.

The Ośrodek Produkcyjny Zastań oil production centre, operated by the Kamień Pomorski oil field, is located on Wolin Island, north of Zastań in the direction of Zalew Kamieński. Access is possible only with prior permission from PGNiG. Bear this access restriction in mind when considering the site.

Facilities and the wider municipality

In 2025, an outdoor fitness area in Zastań was equipped with a horizontal and a vertical ladder, a bench, a pull-up bar with handles and gymnastic rings. An information board with rules for use was also installed there.

Separately from the features of the village itself, the municipality of Wolin offers a broader tourism context. Its tourist resources include Zalew Szczeciński, the Dziwna, Lake Koprowo, the Wolińskie Lake District, the lakes of Ostrowo and Piaski, and the waters of the Baltic Sea. These are complemented by forest complexes, including the forests of Woliński National Park, a varied landscape, existing tourist routes, and road, rail and water connections. Bodies of water make up 21 percent of the municipality’s area; this figure refers to the municipality as a whole. This allows you to distinguish Zastań’s specific natural and historical features from landscape and transport features found across the municipality when choosing your destination.
