If you are looking for a hotel in Budzistowo, the town’s history offers a specific point of interest: an early medieval hillfort lies in the centre. There are also heraldic stones in front of the Church of St John the Baptist and the hunting palace, with its own architectural history. These features represent different historical periods and can be considered separately rather than assigned to a single era.

Budzistowo between the hillfort and the hunting palace

The hillfort is in the centre of the town. In front of the Church of St John the Baptist, stones display the coats of arms of Wrocław and Kraków, which became episcopal sees in 1000, and of Gniezno, which became an archbishopric. The motifs provide two different historical clues: the hillfort is an early medieval fortification; the coats of arms record the ecclesiastical status of the cities mentioned.

The Early Medieval Festival was also held in Budzistowo. An edition was announced for 13 and 14 June 2026. This date therefore refers to an announced edition, not automatically to an annual event.

The hunting palace in Budzistowo represents a different historical period. In the wider travel destination of Kolberg, it stands for a later phase of construction: it was built in the eclectic style around the turn of the 20th century. On its western rear side is a terrace overlooking the park, the orchard and the nearby Parsęta River. Compared with the early medieval hillfort, it also offers a perspective on architecture around 1900.

Nature and activities in the wider travel destination of Kolberg

In the wider travel destination of Kolberg, the Kołobrzeg municipality encompasses coastal dunes, peat bogs, pine forests, meadows, salt marshes and river valleys. The beach at Dźwirzyno is a broad, sandy stretch of coast bordered by dunes and pine forest, making it suitable for walks and relaxing in the shade. Sphagnum mosses and marsh vegetation grow in the raised bogs around Dźwirzyno and Grzybowo; insectivorous plants are also found there. More than 700 species of vascular plants have been recorded in the Kołobrzeg municipality, including many protected species.

For walking and other outdoor activities, there are three Nordic walking routes in Grzybowo and Dźwirzyno, each with a different difficulty level. They run along the beaches and through the coastal forest. Another option is the 55-kilometre Wokół Jeziora Resko cycling route: it runs mostly through the Kołobrzeg municipality and also continues into the neighbouring Trzebiatów municipality. The options therefore differ both in activity and route length.

During the bathing season, supervised sections, food and drink stalls, changing rooms and toilets are available at Dźwirzyno beach. Some access points are adapted for pushchairs and people with reduced mobility. As these facilities are seasonal, check the current conditions before your visit. The Gminne Centrum Sportu i Rekreacji in Dźwirzyno offers bicycle rentals for exploring the Kołobrzeg municipality; here, too, it is advisable to check availability in advance.

Dźwirzyno harbour was once a fishing harbour and is now used for fishing and tourism. It is suitable for coastal sailing, fishing trips and sea excursions in small boats. A modern bridge over the channel between Jezioro Resko Przymorskie and the sea is considered a landmark of Dźwirzyno.

More architecture in the Kolberg travel destination

The churches in Korzystno and Karcino also have their own historical significance. The neo-Gothic church in Korzystno dates from 1866. Its grounds include a former churchyard cemetery laid out in the same year and enclosed by a distinctive brick wall. The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Karcino is also neo-Gothic and dates from 1869. Comparing the two buildings provides another point of reference for the timeline of the wider Kolberg travel destination.
