Soldin: Experience city history and water sports
Accommodation in Soldin
Soldin (Myślibórz) combines a medieval town layout with historic buildings and activities on Jezioro Myśliborskie. This lets you shape your stay around different interests: exploring the town’s history, attending a cultural event or spending time by the water. Myślibórz lies in the centre of the Pojezierze Myśliborskie and near the S3 expressway.
Old Town and historic buildings
The Old Town preserves its medieval layout. The Nowogródzka Gate, which stands in the town walls, is a surviving remnant of the fortifications. Other historic buildings include the Dutch windmill at ul. Szkolna 8. Different architectural features meet at the town hall: the late Baroque building also displays elements of Rococo and early Neoclassicism.
The Kolegiata Świętego Jana Chrzciciela stands beside the market square. Together with the town hall, the gate and the windmill, it offers another starting point for exploring Soldin’s architectural history. The preserved medieval town plan and individual buildings from different periods complement one another, so the town’s history need not be confined to a single place.
Spiritual history and museum
Myślibórz is home to the Myśliborskie Sanktuarium Miłosierdzia Bożego and the Dom Macierzysty Zgromadzenia Sióstr Jezusa Miłosiernego. The town’s more recent history is also connected with Saint Faustina Kowalska and Blessed Michał Sopoćko. These themes offer a distinct cultural and spiritual perspective on a visit.
The Muzeum Pojezierza Myśliborskiego currently presents four exhibitions: “Myślibórz we wczesnym średniowieczu,” “Z dziejów Myśliborza” and “Historia i etnografia,” as well as the “M” Gallery of contemporary art. This brings early town history, local history and ethnography together with a look at contemporary art. Visitors interested in different aspects of the town will find a range of subjects under one museum name.
Festivals and cultural events
The Muzeum Pojezierza Myśliborskiego holds the Jarmark Klasztorny every year around the turn of May and June. The open-air festival brings together historical and cultural themes. Every September, young singers, writers, composers and performers meet at the Spotkania Młodych Autorów i Kompozytorów Piosenki “SMAK” im. Jonasza Kofty. Recognised composers and artists lead workshops for participants. The recurring Dni Myśliborza is an open-air event for residents of the town and its surrounding area, as well as tourists. If you would like to include one of these festivals in your trip, check the specific dates in advance.
Jezioro Myśliborskie and activities on the water
Jezioro Myśliborskie is suitable for recreation and water sports. Myślibórz has two bathing areas on the lake monitored by WOPR lifeguards: at ul. Szarych Szeregów and os. XX-lecia PRL. Kayak trips on both Jezioro Myśliborskie and the Myślą River can be arranged at the marina. This lets you consider swimming spots and possible kayaking destinations as different ways to enjoy a stay by the water.
The Pływalnia Kryta in Myślibórz is another specific water-based amenity in the town. It has five swimming lanes, each 25 metres long. This means the town offers both activities at the lake and an indoor pool with set lane lengths. Which option suits your travel plans depends on whether you are interested in water sports, an organised kayak trip or lane swimming.
Cycling stage and choice of hotel location
For cycling plans, the 60-kilometre Myślibórz–Barlinek–Choszczno stage is a specific option. It is fully complete and runs mostly along paved cycle paths built on a former railway line. Myślibórz is also near the S3 expressway.
If a festival is the deciding factor, take its date into account when planning; for other trips, the town’s history and water activities can provide the framework.
