Szczecin: Culture, Parks and City Routes
Accommodation in Szczecin
Szczecin has everything from museums and architecture to circular routes and green spaces. If you are looking for a hotel, the focus of your daily itinerary can be a useful starting point for choosing one: would you like to visit cultural venues, explore a route on foot, or spend time in parks and by the water?
Culture, Architecture and Collections
The Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic combines a concert programme with striking contemporary architecture. Guided tours offer a look inside the foyer, the chamber and symphony halls, the gallery on the fourth floor, and the souvenir shop. A tour lasts about 60 minutes. Tours are offered regularly on selected Fridays; check the current schedule before your visit, as dates may change.
Another way to explore the city’s history is at the Museum of Technology and Communication. It is housed in a historic tram depot dating from 1912 and is one of Poland’s largest technical museums. Exhibits include trams, buses, cars, motorcycles and bicycles, as well as other technical artefacts. Anyone especially interested in the history of transport and technology will find a different perspective here than in the art and history collections of the National Museum.
The National Museum cares for more than 150,000 objects relating to art, archaeology, nautical history, ethnography and numismatics. Its main areas of focus include Pomeranian and Baltic themes. The Renaissance Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes adds architecture to the mix: it stands on a hill near the Oder. The castle has galleries, a cinema and a theatre; cultural and educational activities are also held there.
There are also different places to visit for the performing arts and science. Opera na Zamku offers opera, operetta, ballet, musicals, concerts, outdoor events, performances for children and guided tours. On Łasztownia, the Maritime Science Centre features interactive science and technology exhibits in a permanent exhibition. This gives you the choice of performances, collections or a more interactive exhibition theme.
City Routes, Parks and Views
The seven-kilometre city walking route is a circular trail connecting 42 attractions and places of interest. It starts and ends in front of Szczecin’s main railway station. This makes it possible to plan a city walk as a complete circuit without confusing the route with the Golden Route, which starts at the Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes and leads through city parks and forests to the heart of the forest.
The suggested “Jez. Głębokie – Oder” cycling route is 16 kilometres long. Its length provides a guide for planning the route; it does not indicate how long the ride will take. Check the path conditions and signage before setting off. A walking and cycling path also runs around Lake Głębokie.
The green spaces offer different settings for spending time outdoors. You can walk and cycle at Jasne Błonia. Kasprowicz Park is Szczecin’s largest park. Further northwest, Głębokie Forest Park covers about 350 hectares and includes Lake Głębokie. The main difference between these paths and places is whether you would prefer to include an urban park or a larger forest park with a lake in your itinerary.
At Wały Chrobrego, you can combine views of the Oder and the port with a walk along the promenade. The complex is 500 metres long and lies 19 metres above the level of the Oder’s riverbank. For a different kind of visit, shaped by culture and landscape, there is the Central Cemetery: covering 172.33 hectares, it is Poland’s largest cemetery and Europe’s third largest. A historical walking route passes through the cemetery’s oldest section; check local conditions before your visit.
Water Activities and Themed Visits
Fabryka Wody combines pools and a sauna area with an educational centre about water, connected to a laboratory. The complex has 21 pools with a total water surface area of more than 2,400 square metres, as well as a sauna area with 15 themed rooms. These figures are as of September 8, 2026; they may change as the facility develops.
If you would rather plan your stay around architecture, museums and performances, the Philharmonic, the castle and the National Museum offer different cultural focuses. For more time outdoors, you can choose from the city parks, the path around Lake Głębokie and the routes described above. These differences can help you decide what to focus on during your trip and, in turn, guide your search for a hotel in Szczecin.
