Mokrousovskiy District: River Valley, Forest and Local History
Accommodation in Mokrousovskiy District
The Shigrovskaya Sogra natural monument encompasses a section of the deeply incised valley of the Manay River, covered with deciduous forest. The steep riverbanks are 30 to 40 metres high; rock is exposed at White Height. The river valley, wooded slopes and exposed rock together shape the character of this stretch of landscape.
Shigrovskaya Sogra lies five kilometres east of the village of Shigry, near the former village of Permyakovka. Another nature destination in Mokrousovskiy District is Solovyovskaya Grove, a popular recreation spot on the banks of the Kizak River, south of the village of Eryomeno. The two descriptions highlight different features: here, the striking landform of a river valley; there, a riverside recreation spot.
Local History and Remembrance
The Mokrousovsky District Historical and Local History Museum is located in Mokrousovo. Its 13 exhibition halls cover different periods in the history of the village and district. The exhibition therefore focuses on local history and the history of the district. Visitors interested in the development of the village and its regional context will find a clearly structured museum exhibit here.
The museum grounds also contain a memorial to participants in the Great Patriotic War and workers on the home front. It includes an Eternal Flame and plaques of the “Immortal Regiment.” The museum and memorial thus combine an account of local and district history with a dedicated place of remembrance.
More to Explore in the Wider Kurgan Oblast
The wider destination of Kurgan Oblast also offers distinctive nature and cultural attractions. The Dalmatov Monastery complex was founded in 1644. It is considered the earliest stone monastery in the Urals and Siberia, and also the largest stone ensemble. For visitors interested in regional cultural heritage, the monastery is another highlight specifically located in Kurgan Oblast.
The Savin sanctuary, known as “Trans-Ural Stonehenge,” is also part of the oblast’s cultural heritage. It is an ancient observatory dating from the 4th to 3rd millennium BCE and a cultural heritage site of federal significance. The Savin Archaeological Park also recreates life in the Early Iron Age. Topics presented include people’s way of life and diet, as well as Scythian and Sarmatian warfare. Guided tours and master classes are offered; check the current arrangements before travelling.
The Ryabinovy Dol eco-trail in Kurgan Oblast offers a different kind of natural scenery. It runs through a pine forest with rowan undergrowth, a plant community that is rare in the forest-steppe zone. Facilities include a gazebo, benches and tables, art installations, a selfie spot, and information about the Ryabinovy Dol natural monument. As specific facilities may change, check the details again before your visit.
