Kuybyshev is located in Kuybyshevskiy District, where its historic city center, museum complex, and monuments offer different ways to explore the area’s history. The “Tri ozera” (“Three Lakes”) hiking trail offers a different travel experience: it runs along the border between Kuybyshevskiy and Barabinskiy districts. This places urban heritage and a route through the landscape side by side as distinct themes for trip planning.

Cityscape and Historic Architecture

The historic center of Kuybyshev, formerly Kainsk, has preserved its historic urban layout. A virtual exhibition showcases historic and architectural landmarks on Kraskoma and Papsheva streets. It juxtaposes postcards from 1903 to 1911 with photographs of the streets as they appear today. This combination offers a direct look at historic views and the architecture captured in the photographs. The content of an online exhibition may change.

The museum complex buildings are also part of this architectural landscape: they are considered examples of urban architecture from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. If you plan to visit the facilities, check the current visitor rules before your trip.

Museum and Civic Memory

The Kuybyshev City Museum Complex was founded in 2004 on the basis of the local history museum. It comprises the local history museum, an exhibition and event hall, and the V. V. Kuybyshev Memorial House Museum. Its exhibitions include “Konyushnya kuptsa I. A. Levako” (“The Stable of Merchant I. A. Levako”) and the open-air exhibition “Dvorovoe kupecheskoe khozyaystvo kontsa XIX – nach. XX vv.” (“A Merchant’s Courtyard in the Late 19th to Early 20th Centuries”).

An open-air exhibition in a square in Kuybyshev includes a T-34 that took part in the Battle of the Kursk Bulge, a 2S9 Nona self-propelled gun, and a 76 mm ZiS-3 divisional gun. As the display may change, it is advisable to check before visiting whether the items listed are currently on display.

The 23-meter-high “Slava sovetskomu narodu” (“Glory to the Soviet People”) stele stands at the roundabout at the entrance to the city. It was erected in the autumn of 1983 to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the USSR and weighs more than 20 tons. The central square is home to the regionally significant historical monument “Bortsam za vlast Sovetov” (“To the Fighters for Soviet Power”). It is associated with the names of people who died during the Civil War and collectivization.

Religious Architecture and Hiking Trail

The Church of the Nativity of John the Baptist is the only religious architectural monument in Kuybyshev to have survived since the early 20th century. Its composition and decor reflect an eclectic style with influences from Russian-Byzantine architecture and classical elements. Check current access arrangements before your visit.

The “Tri ozera” (“Three Lakes”) hiking trail runs through Novosibirsk Oblast along the border between Kuybyshevskiy and Barabinskiy districts. Running parallel to the route of the old Moscow Trakt, it passes three lakes with flora and fauna typical of the area. In this way, the route combines a lakeside landscape with a historic reference point for its course. It is intended for use from spring through autumn; check trail conditions before setting out.
