Chivilcoy offers a variety of ways to shape your stay: historical collections, local prehistory, municipal architecture and astronomy education. Each place has a different focus. You can decide in advance whether you are more interested in history, science or relaxation.

Insights into History and Collections

The Complejo Histórico «Adelina Dematti de Alaye» preserves Chivilcoy’s historical, archaeological and documentary heritage. One room is dedicated to archaeology and paleontology. The collection also includes a reconstructed pulpería, horse-drawn carriages and carts, antique furniture and historical documents. The exhibits range from archaeological finds and everyday objects to written records.

During guided tours of the rooms, trained staff accompany visitors. Children can use educational materials that let them interact with replicas of archaeological finds. A municipal visitor information notice dated July 9, 2026, lists opening hours as Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Check these hours before you arrive.

Museums and City History

The Museo de Artes Plásticas Pompeo Boggio was founded on August 25, 1943, and opened on October 22, 1946. The founding and opening dates mark different stages in the museum’s history. The Palacio Municipal also offers a tangible connection to Chivilcoy’s history: the building was designed by Carlos B. Luchini and inaugurated in 1900.

The Museo Arqueológico Municipal studies local prehistory and presents it in the context of the Pampas region. Its focus is therefore not only on sharing archaeological topics, but also on their regional context. The Museo Almacén El Recreo has a different focus: its aim is to preserve the significance of a general store with a drinks counter in Argentina’s rural, social and economic life. Together, these institutions offer different ways to explore art, prehistory, architecture and everyday life.

Astronomy and Science Education

Parque Cielos del Sur is designed for science education and astronomical observation. Its games are based on solstices, equinoxes and the movement of the sun. The installations have QR codes that provide information, video tutorials, audio explanations and photographs about each game. Check whether the QR systems are available on site before you arrive.

At Parque Cielos del Sur, the Club de Ciencias develops projects in science, mathematics, astronomy and robotics. The Parque Astronómico de Chivilcoy is a separate place, combining learning about astronomy with playful activities. Both descriptions refer to astronomy, but have different focuses: one highlights the science club’s projects, while the other focuses on combining learning and play.

Another Focus for Your Stay

Parque Lacunario Alejandro Martija is a place for recreation and socializing in Chivilcoy, used by the city’s residents. It complements the museums and science attractions with a place whose stated purpose is recreation and socializing.
