Tapalque: Thermal Baths, Festivals and Rural Culture
Accommodation in Tapalque
Termas Tapalqué combines thermal-water pools with landscaped, wooded grounds. The tourist complex was developed by the Tapalqué community and covers 17 hectares. In addition to the thermal pools, there is an outdoor area with freshwater pools, a children’s area, and water features. When planning, you can distinguish between the thermal facilities and the additional water areas; check the current facilities before your visit.
Thermal Baths, Walking Paths and Camping
Termas Tapalqué is 1.5 kilometers from Tapalqué town center and can be reached via Route 51. The access road is suitable for all types of vehicles for most of the year. As road conditions can change, it is worth checking the route before setting out.
The Balneario Municipal de Tapalqué and its surroundings also offer walking paths and opportunities to enjoy nature. For travelers who want to include both water activities and outdoor exercise in their plans, there are different ways to spend time in the area.
The Municipal Campsite is located on the banks of the Arroyo Tapalqué and is considered a destination for family holidays. Its facilities include toilets, showers, electricity, hot water, grills, fire pits, and sinks; it is also staffed around the clock for security. Services may change, so it is best to check in advance which facilities will be available during your trip.
Crotto and Velloso: Culture and Getting Around
In Crotto, the former railway station was converted into the Museo Municipal Comunitario, which preserves the local heritage. The statue La Mujer Campesina stands in the central square. Crotto has also been designated a Pueblo Turístico by the Province of Buenos Aires. Together, the museum, monument, and tourism designation give the town a distinct cultural character.
To reach Crotto, take provincial road RP 51 to Tapalqué, then follow the access road to Crotto. Velloso can be reached via rural roads as well as Routes 3, 61, and 51. If weather conditions make the rural roads impassable, Provincial Route 5 provides an alternative. Velloso also has a swimming pool for the summer season; take this seasonal focus into account when planning your trip.
Festivals, Food and Local Traditions
For more than ten years, Tapalqué has celebrated the Fiesta de la Torta Negra in January. At the festival, visitors can sample a large Torta Negra and make their own cakes in clay ovens using the original recipe. This makes the celebration not only an opportunity to discover regional cuisine, but also a chance to see how it is prepared.
The Fiesta del Cantón Tapalqué takes place as part of Día del Pueblo, celebrated on November 7. A whole cow with its hide, as well as lambs and suckling pigs, are cooked over large fires. Details of the festival program may vary. Crotto also holds a tribute to rural women in April, featuring typical food, traditional games, and artistic performances.
Paraje Campodónico, on the border between the Azul and Tapalqué partidos, offers another combination of food and crafts. There, visitors can sample picadas and discover regional handicrafts. Alongside the festivals, regional food and handicrafts are also distinct interests to consider when planning your trip.
Cinema and Cultural Program
The Centro Cultural Ricardo Romera has a cinema that is part of the Espacios INCAA network and screens current international releases. As the program may change, check the screenings before your visit. The cinema thus complements Crotto’s historical and local cultural attractions with films in Tapalqué.
